Samba FC Odokoro Gbede Wins 2020 Okoro/Araromi/Odokoro Ward Soccer Championship


 

Samba Football Club Odokoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State has won the 2020 Okoro/Araromi/Odokoro Ward Football Championship organized by the Kayode Durotiwon Foundation.

Samba FC defeated Okoro United Star FC on penalties after both sides played a 1-1 draw at the stoppage time.

Luck ran out of Okoro Boys in the penalty shutout as they lost 5-4 to the visiting team.

Bright Star United Okoro Gbede came 3rd while Araromi Gbede took 4th position in the competition.

The event also featured a lecture titled “Sports: Pathway for Youth Development” by a Lecturer from University of Ibadan, Oyo State, Dr. John Ayodele Alonge.

Dr. Alonge identified sports as an effective tool for improving physical and mental health, discipline, leadership and team spirit as well as better time time management.

He said while youths are embracing Western education, they must engage in sporting activities to stay healthy and as a way of ensuring self reliance.

“Sport is very important because it boosts self esteem and confidence of those who engage in it”.

The Chief Executive Officer and Chief Creative Officer, X3M Ideas, Steve Babaeko in his remarks described the competition as a celebration of talent and commended the organisers for investing in the discovery of talents at the grassroots.

Babaeko while assuring of his continued support to the development of youths, pledged his unrelenting partnership with Kayode Durotiwon Foundation.

Also speaking, the Founder of Kayode Durotiwon Foundation, Mr. Kayode Durotiwon said 4 teams from Okoro/Araromi/Odokoro Gbede Ward participated in the Championship and praised the teams for the orderly conduct.

Mr. Durotiwon promised that the championship would be sustained towards hunting for talents at the rural areas.

He advised youths to Shun cultism and other vices and use their talents to engage in profitable ventures that will make them the pride of their respective families and communities.

Cups, medals and cash were presented best players, goalkeeper as well as the teams according to their positions.
