The Head, Security Division of Ajaokuta Steel Company, Mr. Kayode Olorunmaiye has emerged National President of the highest Socio-Cultural group in Ijumu Kingdom, Ijumu Development Union (IDU).
Mr. Olorunmaiye, a retired Police Officer who hails from Ekirin Adde, emerged National President of the Union unopposed.
Others elected are; Comrade Olorunmaiye Samuel -1st Vice President, Chief Otitoju Samuel Ola – 2nd Vice President while a seasoned Lecturer in Federal University Lokoja, Comrade. Ahmed-Ade Fatai is the National General Secretary.
The rest are; Mr. Ogungbamiwa Yinusa Sesan -National Treasurer, Barrister Rekiat Oluwakemi Salami, National Financial Secretary, Mr. Ibitoye Felix, Director of Social, Mrs. Olumosunle Jumoke,Asstistant Director of Social, Mr. Medayedu Abiodun, National Publicity Secretary, Rev.Cannon P. R.O. Olorundare, Asstistant National Secretary and Barr. Yusuf Sikiru Dayo as National Legal Adviser.
The New Executives who are respresentatives of their various communities have two years as their tenure.
In his acceptance speech, the New National President, Mr. Kayode Olorunmaiye expressed appreciation to Ijumu people for the confidence reposed in him and others Executives, promising not to let them down.
“I am sincerely grateful to our Royal Fathers and Elders of Ijumu Kingdom for their recognition and recommendations which have brought me to this elated position. Again, I want to express my gratitude to all Sons and Daughters of our great Ijumu Kingdom for singling me out among many.” Mr. Olorunmaiye stated.
According to him, ”Of course we exist in a society where much emphasis is placed on personal wealth accumulation. However, we must always remember others, and the fact that life in abundance, comes as a result of giving ourselves to others. On this note, I wholeheartedly accept this offer given me to serve my people towards the growth and development of our land. Indeed, this is a highly elevated and service oriented position. I could never have rejected this offer because, my life as a retired Senior Officer in the Nigeria Police Force has been life full of service for 35 years.”
” Even now, after retirement, I still continue to give out service. I have served and received trainings within and outside the shore of Nigeria. Moreover, I am enormously pleased because it has been my desire as a little child to be part of those who will assiduously work in developing our land.” The President maintained
He further noted that “My concern, anxiety, fretfulness, worry and apprehension towards the growth and development of Ijumu Kingdom are exceedingly strong. Therefore Elders of our strong-willed Ijumu Kingdom, I promise to push forward all the arsenals in me, so as to build on the solid foundation which my Predecessors have laid. I shall work uncompromisingly with other Executive Members to achieve, realize and actualize the dreams of our founding fathers.”
Mr. Olorunmaiye while disclosing his plans for Ijumu Kingdom affirmed that “Let me quickly grab this rare opportunity to again remind all of us some of the goals/aims of Ijumu Development Union as pinpointed by the founders. They are as follows:
To foster unity among Ijumu Sub-Districts and thereby putting an end to the ploy of playing one sub-district against the others (divide and rule policy), to fight for the rights of Ijumu citizens and for Ijumu entirety as the majority stakeholder in the Kabba native Authority, to undertake comprehensive capital development of Ijumu Kingdom, to protect the interest of our Traditional Rulers, to protect and develop the cultural heritage of Ijumu Sons and Daughters.
SECURITY:
Security is a critical concept in governance, without which Socio-Political and Economic development will be impossible. Nigeria generally is witnessing increased criminal activities among other threats to national security. It is becoming increasingly difficult to control these various forces of insecurity and criminal activities by security agencies alone, without the support and collaboration among stakeholders.
When there is no peace, there shall be no meaningful growth. History is yet to mention a kingdom where there is growth and development, without establishing protection of lives and properties. With the backing of the Almighty, with coordinated supports and cooperation from other Members of the Executive, I shall use my experience and connections to work with security agents in the state to foster peace in Ijumu Kingdom. There shall be no room for hoodlums, banditry and communal crisis. In
addition, the present IDU Executives shall encourage Inter-Community Security Delivery Collaboration in Ijumu Kingdom. The Vigilante groups in our Kingdom will be empowered financially and logistically, to enable them confront and checkmate the menace of attacks on our farmers in their various farmland locations in Ijumu Kingdom.
ROAD NETWORKS
Our main and internal road networks must be put to appropriate shapes. The concerned authorities shall be well approached to achieve this.
EDUCATION/SCHOLARSHIPS
Education and the FUTURE of a Child are inseparable duo. Education makes people easy to lead, difficult to drive, easy to govern but impossible to enslave. Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world, Nelson Mandela. With guns you can kill terrorists; with Education you can kill terrorism. Education is the Key to unlock the golden door of freedom. The roots of Education are bitter, but the fruits are sweet. Aristotle. We shall work out scholarships to encourage education, for students of Ijumu Kingdom at all levels.
CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT
We shall also use our connections to approach and invite Ijumu Sons and Daughters in the Diaspora for comprehensive capital development of Ijumu land.
STABLE ELECTRICITY
We shall work with government and improve on Solar Mechanism to stabilize electricity in our land.
HEALTH FACILITIES
I have good relationships with some Public Health Providers and Non Governmental Organisations, who will be approached to assist us in the area of health facilities provision. We shall work with the right quarters so as to improve on our existing health system.
PROMOTION OF SPORTS AND CULTURE
We shall organize programmes in order to improve and solidify our cultural heritage including sports.
ASSISTANCE TO YOUTHS/JOB PROVISIONS
I have been doing this before now using my office and connections. We shall not relent. This is the time for us to do more in fixing our youths to various openings both at home and away. Our youths also will become great tomorrow and keep fixing the incoming generations, thereby expanding and developing our great Ijumu Kingdom. Youths with Vocational Skills shall be assisted and empowered accordingly. An idle hand is the devils workshop so says our adage.
ASSISTANCE TO FARMERS
We all know that farming is predominant in Ijumu Kingdom. Having this in mind, we shall do our best to assist our farmers. Youth in agriculture will also be encouraged.
