Police Restore Calm in Oganenigu, Deploy Tactical Teams After Herders-Farmers Clash
Normalcy has returned to Oganenigu community in Dekina Local Government Area following the deployment of tactical police teams to quell tension between villagers and Fulani herders.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat.
the Kogi State Police Command said it responded swiftly after reports of unrest linked to longstanding clashes in the area. Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, ordered the immediate deployment of Police Mobile Force personnel, the Violent Crime Response Unit, and other tactical teams to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
According to the command, confidence-building patrols and security operations are ongoing, and the area is now calm. Preliminary assessments show that some residents temporarily fled out of fear of reprisal attacks, leaving the community largely deserted at the time of the incident.
The police clarified that only one death has been officially confirmed, contrary to claims circulating in a viral social media video. No additional fatalities have been verified, and investigations continue.
The Divisional Police Officer and deployed operatives are engaging community leaders and stakeholders to sustain peace and encourage displaced residents to return and resume normal activities.
The command urged the public to remain calm and provide credible information to aid security efforts, while reassuring residents of its commitment to maintaining peace and security across the area.
