It was more of celebration of life for the family and friends of the Inajus as well as the entire people of Iyano Community in Ibaji Local Government Area of Kogi State as there matriarch, Chief (Mrs) Awawo Uboyih Inaju was buried.
Having attained 92 years on earth, her burial took place amidst pomp and feasting with her funeral programme commencing at her eldest son’s home in Lokoja where an interdenominational wake keep took place.
During the wake keep which had all her six children, many grand children and other relations present, saw positive testimonies from all present, amid cheers, singing and dancing.
In his testimony, Late Mama Awawo’s son, Chief Inaju Inaju described his mother as his best friend, said she was one of his favorite person until her demise, noting that he took solace in the fact that she lived a fulfilled life.
He also noted that Mama was a strong woman of virtue who took pleasure in ensuring that others around her and those that ever crossed her path were happy. She cared for their needs even above hers. He said Mama was a mother to all irrespective of who they are and where they come from.
Other speakers including the clergymen and other relations, described Late Awawo in glowing terms, prayed Almighty God to grant her a peaceful rest in His bosom, said she dedicated herself to serving God before she died.
The internment and formal burial was no different as it was marked with music and dancing by various cultural groups including the Youths and women in celebration of a life well spent and the impact made by Mama Awawo before she died.
In their separate addresses, the clergymen at the burial spoke glowingly about the deceased humble disposition and dedication to God, enjoined those she left behind to emulate her virtues.
The Clergymen further prayed for a positive legacy for the deceased, so that God’s mercies would continue to abide with her even as she rest in the bossom of the Lord.
They also prayed for the children, pleading with God to fulfill all their aspirations by making sure they achieved their heart’s desires and to be of good cheers all the days of their lives.
Highlights of the occasion was the rendition of cultural, Gospel songs and special prayers for the family, among other activities.
Present at the burial was the Ejeh of Ibaji, Chief John Egwemi, a Traditional Ruler from Nassarawa State, HRH, Al-Muhammad Ubabu, Makongijin (Prime Minister) Shabu-Mafia, Nassarawa State.
Others that graced the occasion were Christian clergymen from different denomination, elders and leaders of the Church where Late Awawo worshipped in Idah. Others are friends and relations of the Inaju family from all parts of the country and outside Nigeria amongst several others attended and added colour to the funeral ceremony, described by all as a Celebration of a life well spent to the service of God and humanity.
