WHICH WAY EBIRALAND.
—Lamentation for the erosion of our moral compass and respect for elders in the community.

There is a saying that any society where there is no moral compass and values, that society is dead and doomed beyond redemption.
Unfortunately, the above scenarios and sad commentary speak truer to the sad narrative in Ebiraland today.
This writer who is a Senior citizen in his own right ,have watched with utter dismay , disappointment and disbelieve, the growing societal malady and the lost of moral compass and values in the community, in recent time.
These days our younger generation are exhibiting strange ethical principles and moral practices that are at variance with the norm in the good old days in the community.
Those of us born in the fifties, sixties and early seventies grew up amidst a convivial and communal environment where there was respect for our elders and constituted authority in the community.
There is no gainsaying that Ebiraland have lost it all in the present prevailing environment where there is no more responsible and edifying behavior among our youths in the community.
Most of their irresponsible behavior and moral decadence can be gleaned from their repulsive activities in the social media platforms.
They now release repulsive voice notes to malign and assassinate other people’s character without any prompting or justification.
This writeup is provoked by the general gradual moral decadence in the society today.
The fundamental question begging for answers is that where did we missed it as a people.
Who is responsible for the pervasive loss of moral rectitude among our younger generation in the land.
These days stories abound of real life situations where children are known for abusing their parents in the public.
Some have even taken it a bit further by beating up their biological parents in a free for all fight.
There is nothing like abomination and taboo again in the community.
Our moral compass have been desecrated at the altar of improper upbringing of our youths by their so-called parents and guardians.
Some parents these days are no longer commanding the respect of their children and wards because of their crass irresponsible behavior too.
Some parents are just rearing children without the wherewithal to give them proper upbringing and training both at home and in school.
It goes without saying that the community is now largely populated by illegitimate children who have grown up to become vagabonds and miscreants in the land.
The number of out of school children in the community is alarming.
These children would invariably pose a threat to the society when they become adults, without any meaningful livelihood.
Another thing I have noticed is the alarming cases of drug abuse by all manners of people in the community.
There is no gainsaying that the relevant authorities and security agents like NDLEA have failed woefully in their responsibility.
There are several well known drugs joints dotting the landscape in the community.
Our unemployed youths have taken to masquerade outings as a way of life, since there is nothing else meaningful to engage their time.
Viewed against this background therefore, this is a wake up call to relevant authorities and parents to live up to expectation in the proper upbringing of their children.
Some of our so-called elders and adults are exhibiting irresponsible behaviors unbecoming of their age and status in the society.
Why would a man have several wives all over the place without any care of taking proper care of them and the children from such relationship.
Shame on them.
May God help us and heal the land.
We seems to have lost it all.
