The out going permanent Secretary, Benue state Bureau of Internal Affairs and Special Services Mr. Matthew Uyina has said the bureau under his leadership has trained and retrained people who will take over from him when he finally bows out of service.
Mr. Uyina dropped this hint when he spoke to news men at the bureau’s headquarters, Benue state secretariat Makurdi during the 2022 end of year party saying though the internal security of lives and property of people of the state falls within the preview of the bureau, it has no authority over security agencies.
He explained that the bureau has always been proactive in assisting government in providing timely logistics to security agencies in the state to ensure swift response to distress calls across the state, adding that security was not only physical actions but also covert actions that are geared towards enhancing security of lives and property.
The permanent Secretary told Sunday Standard that in a bid to reduce insecurity in the state, governor Samuel Ortom has re-engineer and revitalised the Community Volunteer Guards to serve as auxiliary force to complement conventional security in strengthening security surveillance.
He said since its formation, the state has received commendation from different bodies including the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) as according to him the security outfit’s NDLEA drugs crack team has made substantial arrests of drug offenders.
The former finance permanent Secretary told Sunday Standard that governor Samuel Ortom led administration has placed high premium on security as evidenced in his disposition to creat enabling environment through continued timely provision of logistical support to security agencies in the state in terms of equipment and funds.
A posthumous award of excellence was presented to a staff of Benue state Fire Service who paid supreme price in the line of duty as well as meritorious award to deserving staff of the bureau during the parley.
