KOGI STATE INDEPENDENT ELECTORAL COMMISSION (KOSIEC)

STATEWIDE BROADCAST BY THE CHAIRMAN, HON. MAMMAN NDA ERI, ON THE OFFICIAL RESULTS OF THE 2026 KOGI STATE LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCIL ELECTIONS HELD ON SATURDAY, 17TH OCTOBER 2026
PROTOCOLS
Fellow citizens of Kogi State, distinguished ladies and gentlemen.
Today, I address you with a deep sense of responsibility, gratitude to Almighty God, and renewed confidence in our democratic journey.
On Saturday, 17th October 2026, the people of Kogi State went to the polls to elect Chairmen and Councillors who will administer our 21 Local Government Councils and represent our people across the 239 Electoral Wards.
This exercise represents another important chapter in our collective determination to strengthen democracy and bring governance closer to the grassroots.
THE ELECTORAL PROCESS
Distinguished citizens,
From the commencement of preparations for these elections, the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission remained guided by one fundamental principle: the will of the people, freely expressed through the ballot, must be respected.
Our responsibility as an electoral management body is not to decide who wins or loses, but to provide a fair, transparent and credible process through which the electorate can make their choices.
Following the conclusion of voting, counting and collation, the duly authorised Returning Officers carried out their statutory responsibilities and declared the results at the designated collation centres.
The Commission has now received and verified the official returns submitted by the Returning Officers.
Fellow citizens of Kogi State,
Having received and verified the official returns from the 21 Local Government Areas and 239 Electoral Wards, I hereby announce, on behalf of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission, the consolidated results of the Local Government Council Elections conducted on Saturday, 17th October 2026.
These figures represent the consolidated results officially declared by the authorised Returning Officers and submitted to the Commission.
Accordingly, I hereby confirm, on behalf of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission, the successful candidates as duly returned by the respective Returning Officers, in accordance with the applicable electoral laws and guidelines.
The detailed results, including the names of successful candidates, their political parties and respective Local Government Areas and Electoral Wards, shall be made available through the Commission’s official communication channels.
MESSAGE TO THE WINNERS AND OTHER CONTESTANTS
To all successful candidates, I extend my congratulations.
However, let me remind you that victory at the polls is not merely a celebration of political success; it is a solemn call to service.
The people have entrusted you with their hopes, expectations and aspirations.
You must therefore govern with humility, fairness, accountability and a genuine commitment to the welfare of the people.
To those who did not emerge victorious, I commend your courage and participation in the democratic process.
Democracy thrives not only when we win elections, but also when we respect the rules, accept legitimate outcomes and pursue grievances through lawful means.
APPRECIATION
I wish to sincerely appreciate His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Executive Governor of Kogi State, for providing the necessary institutional support that enabled the Commission to discharge its statutory responsibilities.
I also commend the security agencies, political parties, candidates, election observers, civil society organisations, traditional and religious leaders, the media and all stakeholders for their respective contributions.
To the management, Commissioners, Electoral Officers, Returning Officers, Presiding Officers, Ad hoc Staff and the entire workforce of KOSIEC, I express my profound appreciation for your dedication and sacrifices.
Above all, I thank the good people of Kogi State for exercising their democratic rights.
CONCLUSION
Fellow citizens,
As we bring this electoral exercise to a close, let me emphasise one important truth:
Elections are not a battle between enemies. They are a democratic contest among citizens who share a common destiny.
Political parties may differ in ideology and approach, but our collective responsibility remains the peace, unity and development of Kogi State.
I therefore call on all citizens, political leaders and supporters to remain peaceful, law-abiding and united.
The election has produced representatives, but the greater task of building stronger communities and improving the lives of our people lies ahead.
At KOSIEC, we remain firmly committed to protecting the integrity of the electoral process and strengthening the foundations of grassroots democracy.
May Almighty God continue to bless our dear State.
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
Long live Kogi State!
Long live democracy!
Thank you, and God bless you all.

Chairman
Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC)
