The Kabba Correctional facility received top Management Team Members of Osaseyi Foundation on a day visit with the inmates and tour of facilities. Chairman of the foundation, Comrade Richard Osaseyi who was ably represented by the Foundation’s Project Manager, Honorable Amodu Abubakar gave the inmates reasons to smile and hope for a new and better future.

The Foundation in their magnanimity and generosity paid the fines of five inmates who showed remorse as they were interviewed by the legal team of the Foundation; as the Legal Team was able to clear them of their minimal offences, and also secured immediate release of three inmates, while the two others interviewed are set to be released at a later date.

The Officer In-Charge of the Correctional Centre, Mr. Ishaku, explained that inmates who could not meet up with their release terms ended up spending longer time in detention; as no help would come before now. He then deeply appreciated this gesture and lauded the efforts of Mr Richard Osaseyi through his Foundation, for making a difference in the lives of the underprivileged. He went ahead to admonished the newly released inmates to be of good behaviour, and uphold the integrity of Osaseyi Foundation and also make their families proud.

One of the inmates, Danlami Musa Daniel said he had given up hope of gaining his freedom because of the huge fine and the inability of his family to raise money, and had resigned himself to serving his full sentence until today when fate smiled at him and he regained freedom due to the Osaseyi Foundation intervention. The other two inmates, Opeyemi Lasisi and Destiny Matthew also thanked the foundation profusely and promised to be of good behaviour henceforth.

The Project Manager, Honourable Abubakar Amodu shortly before their release gave the inmates a message of hope for a better future while urging them to make a meaning of their lives by acquiring skills capable of stabilizing them in the society, and most importantly advised them to turn new leaves and distant themselves from criminal activities capable of bringing them back to detention. Lastly, Honorable Abubakar revealed that plans are in place for the Foundation to setup channels for vocational and skills acquisition, start-up grants for business ideas, and education trust funds, to help released inmates get stabilized and properly integrated back into the society.

Before departure from the facility premises, cash of good sum were handed out to the newly released persons to buy new clothes and also transport themselves back to their families.

The Foundation also uses the opportunity to commend the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello for making life in prison conducive for inmates by providing them with basic amenities as they do their time in detention, and also charged the released inmates to take caution as the Governor Yahaya Bello administration have zero tolerance to crime and perpetrators of criminal acts, to avoid them returning back to their shackles.
