TSG Is Support Group, Not Political Party – Kogi East APC Chieftain Advises Idrisima

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi East, Hon. Ibrahim Adejo, has clarified that the Tinubu Support Group (TSG) is a support group of the APC and not a political party, noting that the Social Democratic Party (SDP) is not part of the Rainbow Coalition.
Speaking with journalists in Lokoja, Adejo advised Idrisima to formalize his membership of the ruling party, saying a back-door arrangement would not serve his political interest.
He cited the example of Murtala Ajaka, the former SDP governorship candidate who returned to the APC after the last governorship election, as a path worth considering.
Adejo said Idrisima, who has declared for the TSG while still retaining his membership of the SDP, may not have been properly guided. He stressed that while politicians can belong to support groups and affiliated organisations, such groups are not superior to, nor a substitute for, a political party.
“You can only truly belong to a party’s support group if you are a member of that party,” he noted.
He added that political alignment requires clarity, observing that while candidates in other parties are working for their own presidential candidates, Idrisima’s current posture creates confusion.
Adejo explained that the APC in Kogi East is working for President Bola Tinubu and all candidates of the party at all levels, and that the TSG as part of the APC structure is working in that same direction.
He said suggestions that the TSG is not working for APC candidates in the state do not reflect the reality, stressing that President Tinubu remains the national leader of the APC.
He acknowledged Idrisima’s previous support for retired Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin in the last election, noting that the gesture could be seen as a reciprocal move through the TSG. He however cautioned that party discipline and structure must be respected.
Adejo said the APC remains open to welcoming SDP members, including Idrisima and his supporters, should they decide to formally join the party, adding that Idrisima’s interest in the TSG is a welcome development if properly aligned.
