The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,House of Representatives hopeful for the Oredo federal constituency, Osaro Onaiwu (Jnr), says he will neither quiver nor bend in his decision to make the promotion and the defence of the rights of the Oredo child the cardinal objective of his legislative agenda.
The House of reps hopeful made the declarative statement during an interactive session with journalists in Benin.
According to him, he has the arsenal and the ability to sustain the tempo of his clamour for the defence of the rights of the Oredo child.
Onaiwu Jnr , who was among the legion of political contenders screened and certified fit to contest by the PDP Screening Committee, dismissed as “false and misleading” talks of him using the child rights campaign as a smokescreen to gain power only to discard it later.
Osaro onaiwu Jnr remains the favourite for the Oredo federal constituency PDP ticket.
He has at different fora repeatedly promised to devote a greater chunk of his legislative agenda to protect the rights of the Oredo child, while also ensuring a better future for them
The oredo first crusader similarly picked holes in the child rights law, saying it is obsolete and inadequate to protect today’s child, adding a more contemporary child rights law that addresses the needs and concerns of the modern child is urgently needed.
Onaiwu Jnr contends further that the plight of the Oredo child and those of his peers elsewhere is pathetic and worrisome, stating he’s suffered several heartbreaks and loss of confidence in humanity each time he encounters out of school children hawking and doing other menial jobs during school hours.
He submitted that one of the best ways of halting the ugly trend of child rights violations and abuse is legislation and went on to admonish parents and guardians to stop paying lip service to the well-being of their wards.
The PDP primary to nominate the party’s flag bearer for the Oredo federal constituency election comes up on May 12, 2022.
