In the search for the two qualifying teams from each of the Five Local Government Areas in Okun that *are* to participate in the Okun Unity Cup Maiden Edition, a tournament geared towards encouraging grassroot Football, further tightening the long existing Unity bond as well as bringing Okun Youths together through Sports and proudly sponsored by Sologics groups with the approval of the Kogi State Sports Council, Mopamuro and Ijumu Local Government Areas has commenced actions by Organizing preliminary matches amongst various teams in their communities with the sole purpose of finding the best team that will qualify to represent them at the tournament.
Other Local Government Areas too will be following suits in order to produce their best two teams that will also feature in the tournament.
The purpose for this preliminary matches is to ensure that one of the primary purpose for organizing this tournament which is making sure that every Community enjoys the right to equal participation in the competition is not defeated.
In Ijumu LGA, Iyamoye and Ekinrinadde have played and it ended in penalty kick Iyamoye 11 and Ekinrinadde 10, Iyara Versus Ikoyi/Iffe; Iyara 3 vs Ikoyi 0.
The next match is slated for tomorrow Sunday Iyara versus Iyamoye at 8am venue Ikoyi.
Meanwhile in Mopamuro LGA, a match between Raising Star ? FC Mopa versus Ilai FC was played at ESSMO Field, Mopa where Raising Star Mopa scored one and Ilai FC had 0.
Teams from Amuro Community will be playing at ACSS Amuro by tomorrow Sunday.
Other Local Government Areas yet to kick-off their own preliminary matches will be doing so by next week. This is to ensure that the participation gets to the grassroots it is targeted at.
Teams in various Communities are enjoined to take advantage of this opportunity by participating actively. This is because the tournament is aimed at promoting talented grassroot footballers.
Also the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Sologics groups Mr Abayomi Bello has promised to ensure that the tournament enjoys national and international recognition noting that a lot of opportunities will be tabled before Okun Youths who have distinguished themselves in this area of grassroot Football.
Interestingly, customized jerseys and other materials have been made readily available for each of the teams that will be representing their Local Government Areas in the tournament.
