The Kogi State Commissioner For Youths and Sports, Hon. Monday A Anyebe has charged youths in the State irrespective of religion to foster unity among themselves, uphold discipline and respect for constituted authority in order to enjoy the gains of the present administration of Gov. Usman Ahmed Ododo.
The Commissioner gave the charge on Friday evening during a special breaking of Ramadan fast which was organized by the Chairman, Nigeria Nigerian Youth Council, Kogi State Chapter, urged the youth to build goodwill.
The event was held at the Youth House Lokoja and well attended by both Muslim and non Muslim Youths as well as critical Stakeholders of the NYCN in the State.
The Commissioner described the programme as a reflection of the Teachings of Prophet Muhammad in the holy Month of Ramadan and urged Youths in the state to support one another and reflect on the plight of the needy in the society assuring of government continuous support for the youth demography.
He said that his presence at the event is like home coming for him, noting that the event once again demonstrates love and togetherness of all youths of the State for the administration of Gov. Ododo.
According to him, the special event is also an opportunity to foster unity and love for one another as Youths irrespective of religion and tribe.
“It is a fact that the present administration places emphasis on the youth. But we can only harness the opportunity if we are together and united”.
“I am using this occasion to commended the NYCN leadership in Kogi State for putting the event together and this will certainly foster unity among the Youths in the state because the event brought together both Muslims and Christian without discrimination” he said.
He called on youths to remain dedicated, focused and eschew sentiments that will pose negative impact on their ability to tap into the bountiful opportunities the administration of Gov. Ododo will afford them, promised the NYCN all the needed support needed to succeed”.
In his goodwill message, the Caretaker Chairman, Lokoja LGA, Comr. Abdullahi Adamu, praised the leadership of the Council for the initiative, said it is a step in the right direction for the unification of the Council.
Similarly, Comr. Haroun Opotu lauded the present leadership of the NYCN in the State, described the outing as a watershed, would go a long way in uniting the members and in spiritual rejuvenation.
Earlier, the NYCN Chairman of the State, Comr. Ben Jerry noted that the programme, the first of its kind, is in fulfilment of his promise on assumption of office to sustain the unity of members.
The Chairman said upon assumption of office he met a battered and disunited Council, expressed satisfaction that he has changed the narrative to one that the council is now more than ever united.
Comr. Jerry listed his achievements since assumption of office to include improvement in the infrastructure at the youth House, solicit for the release of the subvention of the Council to aid effective running of the Council.
He used the opportunity to thank some members of the National Assembly, like Hon. Suleiman Aguye and Hon. Halims Abdullahi for their support thus far, promised to sustain the annual breaking of Ramadan fast and other programs that would unite the Council through out his tenure.
While expressing satisfaction with the turnout of members at the event, the NYCN Chairman
said that the event was organized to bring together both Muslim and Christians together in a happy and friendly atmosphere.
He expressed gratitude to the Commissioner for Youths and Sports for funding the breaking of fast, thanked other critical NYCN stakeholders in the state for attending the special breaking of the Ramadan fast and called on youths to redouble their efforts in their support for the administration of Gov Ododo.
He urged Youths in the State to always be guided by the principles of respect, discipline, and remain supportive of the government of the day to move the Kogi State forward.
