NYC INAUGURATES ELECTIONS COMMITTEE, SETS JULY 6-14 TIMELINE TO ELECT NEW KOGI YOUTH LEADERSHIP AT LGAS
The Nigerian Youth Congress, NYC, Kogi State Chapter has inaugurated an Elections Committee to conduct the next round of congresses, following the expiration of Comr. Alfa Ebune’s leadership in the State.
The inauguration came after an extraordinary meeting of the NYC under Comr. Ebune’s leadership. The Committee was charged to conduct a free, fair and credible election that will allow the best candidates and the choice of Kogi youths to emerge as leaders.
Announcing the timetable, Comr. Ebune said the process will run from 6th July to 14th July, 2026. The exercise will begin with Local Government Congresses in Ijumu, Kabba-Bunu, Yagba West, Yagba East and Mopa-Muro. The Committee will thereafter proceed to Kogi Central and Kogi East Senatorial Districts, before concluding with elections in Lokoja and Kogi LGAs.
“The Congress is looking forward to having the best in leadership after the election. For exigencies, the congress will begin with that of the Local Government,” Ebune stated.
The Elections Committee, also known as the Congress Planning Committee, is chaired by Comr. Maximilian Tashalani, with Comr. Aliyu Omeiza Mohammed as Secretary. Other members are: Comr. Gimba D. Muhammad representing Lokoja/Kogi LGA; Comr. Moses Blessing; Comr. Solomon Ademola Isaac; and Comr. Zuleihat Abubakar Fache from Kogi Central.
In his acceptance speech, the ECM Chairman, Comr. Tashalani, described the assignment as “another privilege to serve the over 1.9m youth population of the State.”
He assured the NYC management that the Committee would handle the assignment with utmost seriousness and deliver “the best Congress ever witnessed in Kogi State.” He urged members to see the task as a “litmus test” and to give their best in the interest of Kogi youths.
Comr. Ebune commended Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo for what he described as an “inclusive, youth-driven style of administration” and for huge investments in security.
“The Governor’s love for the people is juxtaposed in his huge investment in the area of security,” he said, adding that the Governor’s leadership continues to inspire youths to take up leadership roles. He passed a vote of confidence on the Governor.
The outgoing NYC Chairman also commended the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Monday, and the Special Adviser on Youth and Student Matters, Amb. Oladele John Nihi, for their support in making the Congress recognized in the state. He noted that the coming of former Governor Yahaya Bello “changed the narrative for youth involvement in governance,” and praised Gov. Ododo for building on that foundation.
The Nigerian Youth Congress is the umbrella body of youths across Kogi State. Its mandate is to positively position youths for generational change and to stand against social vices and corruption. Comr. Ebune urged the Committee to ensure youths benefit from the “Renewed Hope” mantra and to discharge their duties with integrity.
