Nigerian women stand in solidarity with Sen Natasha, Coordinator, Kogi Women Constituency Lead Platform.
… Caution against intimidation, harassment of Sen. Natasha.
The Coordinator, Kogi Women Constituency Lead Platform, Eunice Agbogun, says that there is more to the happenings in the Senate than just the issue of sitting arrangement, lamented the intimidation and harassment that is being meted out to Sen. Natasha Akpoti Udaughan, Senator, Representing Kogi Central Senatorial District.
According to the State Coordinator, in a press statement issued to Newsmen in Lokoja, said this is the second time the Senate President, Sen. Godswill Akpabio will be embarrassing the Kogi Senator in the public.
The Coordinator said the Senate President had on a particular occasion used derogatory words on Sen. Natasha, when he mentioned the issue of night club, expressed worry about what she termed harassment on the part of the Senate President.
“For women of Kogi State, we see the happenings in the Senate as more of intimidation, harassment and attempt to surpress the voice of a vocal Female Senator”.
“It is unfortunate that when there is a strong advocacy for more women participation and representation in politics, the few ones we have who are vocal would be silenced”.
“How many women do we have in the Senate that the few ones that are vocal are being surpressed and harassed. This is totally unacceptable to Women as we call on the Senate President to apologize to Nigerian women”.
“Kogi women in solidarity with Sen. Natasha therefore view the recent happenings in the Senate as an unnecessary harassment on women participation in Politics”.
“Recalled that during the period when Sen. Bukola Saraki was Senate President, a scenario played out involving Sen. Akpabio when he also complained about the change in his seat”, lamented that Sen. Akpabio was never suspended from the Senate, wondered why the case of Sen. Natasha should be different.
“Nigerian women are not happy with the intimidation that Sen. Natasha is made to face when in reality women are asking for more participation and inclusion in politics”.
The State Coordinator cautioned against the harassment of the few women in the Senate who are vocal, said like Sen. Natasha, they should not be harassed nor surpressed for no just cause, pointing out that Nigerian women stand in solidarity with the Kogi Senator.
