When Bunu District speaks, Kogi West listens, and when Bunu endorses, it stands by that word with unwavering commitment, integrity and sincerity. That age-long political character defined Saturday’s historic gathering at Odo-Ape, headquarters of Bunu District in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, where the entire district came together in a powerful, carnival-like display of unity to unanimously endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for a second term, and Distinguished Senator Sunday Steve Karimi for another term in the Senate in 2027.
Bunu District, comprising six wards of Akutupa-Kiri, Aiyetoro-Kiri, Iluke, Olle/Oke-Offin, Oke-Bukun and Odo-Ape out of the fifteen wards in Kabba/Bunu, is not a district given to frivolity in political decisions. History records Bunu as a people of covenant, a community that does not trade its word for convenience, a district whose political fidelity has remained consistent over decades. Once Bunu takes a position, it defends it from the polling unit to the ward level with massive votes and unshakable loyalty. This is why their endorsement of Senator Sunday Karimi speaks volumes beyond ordinary political declaration, it is a testament of earned trust, proven performance and a relationship built on visible results.
The endorsement rally, held at the open field of Community Primary School, Odo-Ape, witnessed a mammoth crowd of vibrant youths, women and elders from all corners of Bunu land, shutting down the community in solidarity with the Renewed Hope administration and the effective representation of Senator Karimi. At the heart of the gathering was the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Hon. Durosinmi Meseko, a proud son of Bunu, who charged the people to vote massively for President Tinubu and Senator Karimi in the 2027 general elections. Hon. Meseko noted that Bunu District and Kogi West at large have benefited immensely from the Tinubu administration in areas of infrastructure, economic reforms, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, social interventions and renewed confidence in the national economy. He described the President’s bold reforms, though challenging, as already yielding positive results in improved foreign reserves, economic stabilization and attraction of foreign investments, assuring that more dividends lie ahead if re-elected. He stressed that Senator Karimi has changed the narrative of legislative representation in Kogi West and deserves a second term to consolidate on his achievements, adding that the recent influx of former PDP governors into the APC is a clear testimony of the confidence Nigerians now repose in President Tinubu’s vision and policies. Speaking through his representative, Hon. Folorunsho Braimoh, Meseko assured that Bunu District will surpass votes from other local government areas in Kogi West in 2027, reaffirming that the district remains a stronghold of progressive politics.
Senator Sunday Karimi, visibly moved by the overwhelming endorsement, thanked the people of Bunu for their love and fidelity, stating that the re-election of President Tinubu is sacrosanct considering his impact on Nigerians and on Kogi State in particular. He recounted his stewardship since 2023 as one defined by people-centred interventions, ranging from scholarship and educational support for over two hundred students across Kogi West, women empowerment through cooperative societies with grants, sinking of solar-powered boreholes across all six wards of Bunu District, reconstruction of the long-abandoned Pakuta Bridge linking Bunu communities, renovation of blocks of classrooms in several schools, provision of transformers to electrify rural communities, facilitation of employment opportunities for youths, and distribution of palliatives and farm inputs to farmers. The President’s achievements he also highlighted include removal of fuel subsidy to free funds for development, introduction of NELFUND, clearance of foreign exchange backlog, massive road infrastructure projects including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and Sokoto-Badagry Highway, increased allocation to states and local governments, agricultural interventions and renewed fight against insecurity.
The depth of these interventions was corroborated by the Chairman of Bunu District, Pastor Obayomi Lawrence, who appreciated Senator Karimi for his unprecedented footprint in the district and reiterated the resolve of Bunu people to deliver one hundred percent votes for President Tinubu and Senator Karimi. Other respected voices, including Dr. Ola Elijah Olorunshua, Comrade Bayo Oyenibi Owojola and Hon. Esther Balogun, described both President Tinubu and Senator Karimi as leaders who have performed creditably and deserve continuity.
As the rally transitioned into a youth carnival, the message became even clearer as youths trooped out en masse declaring that President Tinubu has shown capacity, courage and genuine love for Kogi State and Nigeria, and that Senator Karimi is not just a Senator but a father, a pillar and a blessing to Bunu land whose infrastructural interventions, scholarship programs, empowerment and vocal representation at the Red Chamber surpass any Senator in history. In their words, there is no other candidate, it is Karimi till 2031, a declaration that reverberated through solidarity songs and chants of Tinubu 4+4, Karimi Again and Again.
