Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has disconnected the Niger state government house and other MDAs in the state over an indebtedness of over N1.3Billion.
This was revealed by the AEDC Public Relations Officer in the state, Adamu Dantani in Minna.
Adamu Dantani said the decision to disconnect the Government House, General hospital and other MDAs is to recover all the outstanding debts running into several Billions of naira being owed the company by the state government.
He disclosed that the disconnection would have been carried out months ago but was shelved as a result of the intervention of the House of Assembly.
He mentioned that four months after the intervention between the company and the Executive arm of the government the agreement reached has been breached by the government.
He added that in the agreement reached, the state government was to settle at least about 80 per cent of the debt which they failed to comply.
“From the day of the agreement till date, there is no commitment from the state government side.
Dantani stated that the AEDC has been pushed to the wall and has no option than to act accordingly.
“We took the action after being pushed to the wall by the state government for not keeping to its words after the intervention of the state Assembly four months ago.
“We don’t have any option than to disconnect their services and concentrate on our teaming loyal consumers in and outside the metropolis.”
