Mukadam Asiwaju Asiru Idris, FCA, the Honourable Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Kogi State, has congratulated all the newly elected Local Government Chairmen across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state, describing their emergence as an opportunity to deepen grassroots development and strengthen democratic governance.
In a special recognition of the newly elected council leaders, MAAI extended his warm congratulations to the Yagba East Chairman-elect, Hon. Dare Joshua, using his emergence as a point of contact to celebrate all other successful candidates across the state.
He noted that their election represents both a mandate and a responsibility to translate the aspirations of the people into tangible development outcomes through purposeful leadership, accountability, responsiveness and inclusive administration.
The Honourable Commissioner also commended His Excellency, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, FCA, for his commitment to democratic principles, inclusive governance and the effective administration of local government councils. He acknowledged the importance of strengthening grassroots institutions and creating an enabling environment for local governments to fulfil their constitutional responsibilities and deliver meaningful dividends of democracy to the people.
According to MAAI, sustainable development begins at the grassroots, where the impact of governance is most directly felt. He therefore urged the newly elected chairmen to prioritise the welfare of their constituents, improve rural infrastructure, support local economic activities, promote youth and women empowerment, and ensure that public resources translate into measurable benefits for their communities.
He further encouraged the council chairmen to foster harmonious relationships with traditional institutions, community leaders, civil society groups and other stakeholders, stressing that collaboration and transparency remain essential to effective local government administration.
MAAI expressed confidence that, with dedication, prudent resource management and a people-centred approach, the new council administrations can contribute significantly to the development agenda of Governor Ododo and the broader progress of Kogi State.
He wished Hon. Dare Joshua and all the newly elected Local Government Chairmen a successful tenure, urging them to regard their electoral victories not merely as achievements to celebrate, but as a solemn call to service.
He concluded by reiterating that the true measure of leadership lies in its impact on the lives of the people, expressing hope that the new council administrations will usher in renewed commitment to grassroots development, accountable governance and shared prosperity across Kogi State.
