KOGI WEST: THE QUEST FOR GOVERNORSHIP POSITION IN 2024
The Kogi West Governorship Awareness Movement is an umbrella body set up by patriotic, vibrant, dedicated, focused, dynamic and vision-parked young Nigerians of Kogi West Senatorial District extraction that have shown serious commitment to make sure that the district produces the next governor of Kogi State come 2024.
The movement is a voluntary organization open to all who mean well for the district and are always already to ginger up as well as oil the agitation for someone from the district to take up the mantle of leadership after the expiration of the tenure of Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, the current executive governor of Kogi State in January, 27th 2024, in order for the leadership to circulate round the three senatorial districts of Kogi State in an equilibrium manner.
To achieve the above, this group will engage our natural rulers, political leaders, community leaders, women and youths to educate them on why this group is set up in the first place seek for their support and cooperation on this burning matter before us.
We are going to work closely to promote, support and canvass for any aspirant and candidate that finally emerges from Kogi West for this exalted position.
We would be involved actively in the electioneering campaign of such individual.As a group, we have set up some achievable goals for ourselves.
It is our intention to go from one community to another within the state to mobilize, educate and sensitize the populace on the need to support this great course of having a Kogi Westerner as the next governor.
Kogi West Senatorial district comprises seven local government areas namely: Yagba West, Yagba East, Mopamuro, Kabba-Bunu, Ijumu, Lokoja and Kogi, this part of Kogi State has never had the opportunity to produce an executive governor despite the progressive nature of the people since the creation of the state in 1991.
It must be noted here that Kogi State stands on a tripod and the non-inclusion of Kogi West senatorial district in power equation has been a bane to the development of the state and this has led to some sorts of mistrust, hatred and bad blood among various ethnic groups in the state.
For the sake of those who may not know, Kogi State is made up of three Senatorial district namely: Kogi East which is made up of nine LGAs and populated by the Igala and Bassa; Kogi Central having five LGAs and populated by the Ebira and Ogorians and finally Kogi West with seven local government areas as earlier enumerated above and populated by the Okun Yorubas, Oworo, Kakanda, Nupe and Egbura Koto.Kogi West Senatorial district has about 1.4 million people but unfortunately, the area has long been neglected and marginalized by the other two senatorial districts politically and economically.
The district has never produced an executive governor since the creation of the state despite having men and women of high caliber, well –groomed, well exposed and having global view on issues. Kogi West Governorship Awareness Movement wants to use this medium to appeal to indigenes from Kogi West Senatorial district who have what it takes to govern the state come 2024 to show strong commitment for their desire and work collectively.Kogi East has occupied the seat of the governor for 19years through these personalities: Late Prince Abubakar Audu 6years, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris 9years and Captain Idris Wada 4years, while Kogi Central has produced Alhaji Yahaya Bello who will complete 8years in office in 2024.
For fairness sake, Kogi West should step in comes 2024 so that justice, brotherliness and unity can prevail in Kogi State. Anything short of this is not acceptable to the people of Kogi State.
Our group is wishing and willing to use all available means to talk and impress on everyone from Kogi West to support and unite for the realization of having one of our own at the helm of affairs in Kogi State in 2024.
The other two senatorial districts namely: Central and East should be magnanimous enough as well have that understanding that we are all equal and we need one another before unity and progress can be achieved in our dear state.It will be unfair, callous and wicked for any other senatorial zone in Kogi State outside Kogi West to venture at producing the next governor of the state.
Serious consideration and support should be given to us in Kogi West by other districts for the purpose of equity and even development.
On our part in Kogi West, we must be focused, put our house in order, work like a team, avoid ethnic cum religious dichotomy, and be determined to demonstrate that we can provide that strong and good leadership like any other district ever produced in the past or even better.
This is the position of Kogi West Governorship Awareness Movement on the 2024 governorship election in Kogi State. With God on our side, this objective will be achieved through the cooperation of all sundries within and outside Kogi West.
