In it’s quest to combat the menace of climate change and global warming, Kogi State ACReSAL has successfully flagged off the distribution of clean cook stoves to rural women in Okene, the Central Senatorial District, and will be replicated in the Eastern and Western Senatorial Districts of the State.
In attendance were the Hon. Commissioners for Environment and Water Resources, as well as the Representatives of the Hon. Chairman, Okene LGA, and other dignitaries.
While delivering his speech at the flag off ceremony in Okene, the Hon. Commissioner for Environment, who also doubles as the Chairman, State Steering Committee, Chief Adewale Victor Omofaiye thanked the Governor of the State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello for his unending support to the ACReSAL Project in ensuring the success of the ACReSAL Project.
The Commissioner charged beneficiaries on the need to show appreciation to the State Governor, by putting the stoves to good use, as it will ensure that they cook in more conducive and less smoky environment.
He added that it would also put a stop to some unexplainable ailments which the women are exposed to owing to poor cooking practices.
On his part, the Hon. Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Abdulmumin Danga was equally appreciative of the State Governor’s support for the Project, urged the people not to relent in their support for the Government of Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
While delivering the welcome remarks, the Project Coordinator, Barr. Ladi Ahmed Jatto indicated how delighted she was that the ACReSAL Project is implementing its first activity that is of direct benefit to the the rural women.
She took time to shed light on the importance of the Project, and the need for the rural women to make the most of the opportunity for a better life presented to them by the State Government through the ACReSAL Project.
She further shed more light on the dangers of climate change and global warming, as well as the role which the indiscriminate felling of trees in the State plays in aggravating the menace of climate change.
The Project Coordinator assured them that the clean cook stoves would bring about a drastic reduction in the overdependence on firewood as the major source of cooking fuel.
She therefore admonished the rural women to make the Governor proud, as he intends to stop at nothing in ensuring a safe and sustainable environment for the good people of Kogi State.
While delivering the closing remarks, the Permanent Secretary, who also doubles as the Chairman, State Technical Committee, Dr. Jibrin Saidu Alhaji, reiterated the need for the beneficiaries to make the most of the clean cook stoves, as that was the only way the Governor, who is concerned about their well-being would know that they appreciate the State’s gesture…
The high point of the event was the presentation of the much talked about clean cook stoves to the rural women, who were full of praise for Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello…
