Kogi State Assembly Seat: Bunu Stakeholders Drive Support for Iluke Ward
As momentum continues to gather on the choice of candidate for Bunu state assembly constituency, stakeholders have continued to speak up on the need to maintain equity, fairness and justice in considering the next candidate to represent Bunu in state house of assembly.
At the Bunu APC stakeholders meeting held on the 17th April,2026, majority of the stakeholders who spoke at the meeting have expressed support for APC candidate to emerge from Iluke Ward, stating the obvious reasons on how Iluke Ward has been deprived and alienated when it comes to political appointments and elective office despite their unwavering support to the All Progressive Congress in every election.
Hon. Moses the immediate past chairman of Kabba Bunu local government,who spoke on behalf of Odo-Ape Ward said at the meeting, that “it is important to ensure fairness and justice,given the analysis on allocation of various political appointments in Bunu district, especially Kiri wards which has been filled with tangible positions, Iluke Ward should be consider to produce APC candidate in the coming state assembly election”
In the same vein , Hon Nathaniel Taiwo Ojo who on behalf of Okebukun Ward expressed disappointment on how Iluke-Ward has been neglected over the years despite being the recording the second largest voters in Bunu district in every election. Hon. Nathaniel strongly disagreed with the idea of zoning to Kiri Ward, adding that all stakeholders should stand firm with Iluke-Ward for the APC in the coming state assembly election.
In his opinion, a highly revered stakeholder Hon Joash Onemayin, speaking on behalf of Olle-Oke-Offin Ward,said it is a widely held opinion that the current occupant of the seat in state assembly Hon Seyi Bello who is from Olle-Oke Offin Ward has not enjoyed support to deserve a second term,owing to the perceived low level of his performance in office in the last three years and therefore Iluke-Ward should be allowed to produce the next state assembly legislator for Bunu constituency. It is important to add that Olle/Oke-Offin Ward is currently holding the positions of state assembly,commissioner of education and the state security adviser, he added.
Hon. Williams Owoyomi who spoke for Iluke-Ward expressed his unreserved appreciation for the favorable opinions of the stakeholders to consider Iluke Ward and urged the Hon.Commissioner for Education Hon. Wemi Jones and the State Security Adviser Hon.Jerry Omodara to rely on the majority opinion expressed by the 4 wards leaders that has spoken for Iluke-ward against 6 wards stakeholders in ratifying the choice of candidate for the constituency and to particularly ensure Iluke Ward is considered for the purpose of equity and fairness.
It can be inferred from this stakeholder meeting that out of the six wards in Bunu district, four wards have continued to assert their support for Iluke Ward and it is the expectation of the general public in Bunu that other stakeholders in two opposing Wards, Aiyetoro-Kiri and Akutupa-kiri should allow the spirit of sportsmanship, fairness and equity to prevail by giving total support the Iluke Ward.
