Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr Abubakar Bashir Gegu has been named the “Commissioner of the Year” by the group; Advocacy for Youth Leadership in Governance.
Presenting the award on Tuesday in Lokoja, the group said Engr Gegu has led the new ministry with dexterity and guile, noting that the state government had done well for creating the ministry and appointing Engr Gegu to head it.
According to the group, the awardee has shown his love for the youths and has created the avenue for involvement of the young ones around him by empowering them through capacity building for productive involvement in governance.
It described the Commissioner as a lover of peace and unity, adding that his humility and generosity has endeared him to many and institutions in and outside Kogi State.
The group then highlighted that the state would be better at the end of the tenure of Governor Yahaya Bello through gainful utilisation of the state’s natural resources as being espoused by the ministry of Solid Minerals and Natural Resources under Engr Abubakar Bashir Gegu.
Reacting to the award, the Commissioner expressed gratitude to the awardees and dedicated it to Governor Yahaya Bello, whom he described as the leader of a new Logo State.
He admitted that he was not the best in government, but that Governor Bello has created the enabling environment for all his appointees to use their portfolios for the good of the entire state.
Engr Gegu said such award was a factor that would encourage him to do more as demanded by Governor Bello, stressing that it would encourage him to redouble his efforts towards a better ministry of Solid Minerals and Natural Resources that would attract more Development to the State.
