It was all fun in Iyara, Monday afternoon, as the People’s Democratic party (PDP) in Ijumu Local Government, at its party secretariat,
rolled out drums to flag off its campaign for the forth coming Local Government election.

The event which started at exactly 2.00pm maintained an even thrill
till around 5.00pm when it ended, with goodwill messages from party leaders across the fifteen wards in the Local Government, flowing in torrential sequence.

Kehinde Ola Musical Band was in a superlative outing as he treated
crowd to conventional party tunes.
The Master of Ceremony, Pastor Stanley Ajileye reeled out names in
recognition of party leaders from Chief Shola Akanmode to Chief
Abiodun Ojo, Distinguished Senator Dino Melaiye, Architect Salman,
Hon. Ajisafe, Prince Rchard Akanmode, Hon Omofe and Honourable Adams.
Others are: Hons. S .O. Ibrahim, Idris Imran, Paul Aiyenigba, Segun
Ojo, Samson Obademi , S. O, Adeleye and Sule Lamidi.
Also present was the party’s Chairmanship candidate, Hon Jerry Owonibi
and his running mate, Mrs Margaret Olaoye.
Though some of the leaders were recognized in absence, their goodwill
messages were conveyed to the party members and supporters.
In his welcome address, the party Chairman, Hon S. O. Ibrahim
expressed gratitude to the people for turning up in such a great
number; this according to him is a confirmation that the people are
tired of the maladministration and the excesses of the ruling party in
the state, and of course, the Local Government .
During the goodwill messages, Hon Segun Ojo, who spoke for the people
of Ijumu Arin, berated the ugly attempt by the All Progressive
Congress, to undermine the age-long rotation pattern. He described
this move as an aberration which Ijumu Arin is vehemently opposed to.
Hon Akeem Ibraheem who spoke afterwards, assured the people of Ijumu
that Gbede as a whole has no hand in, and will never support any
attempt to submerge an arrangement that have worked for peace and
order in Ijumu.
He said the whole issue bothers on the inordinate ambition of one man;
and because a tree does not make a forest, he will fail in his bid.
For Hon Samson Obademi who spoke for Ijumu Oke, It is unthinkable for
any rational fellow to conceive the idea of brushing aside a noble
idea that is well founded in our tradition and politics. He confirmed
further that, even Ijumu Students Union practices rotational system as
established since 1988/98 during the tenure of Stanley Ajileye as
National President of the students’ body. He said if Ijumu does not
rise against the selfish move of spoiler game of APC, our children
will ask us questions tomorrow.
A representative of the Tiv community and the youths also spoke
glowingly for PDP and its candidates, urging the leaders to support
them as they are bent on standing by their votes on Election Day.
Among the youths, it was an intermittent echo of “All we are saying:
Give us Jerry”…….. “All we are saying we need Margaret”
Hon Adam who spoke for the party elders, was full of appreciation as
he pleaded with the people to take home, the message of commitment to
prove to the world that Ijumu is PDP and PDP is Ijumu,
Before the vote of thanks by Hon. Paul Aiyenigba, both the chairman
and his running mate thanked the people for bringing them forward to
serve, They both pledged not to disappoint the good people of Ijumu.
