Engr. Bashiru Gegu, Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, has reiterated his unwavering commitment to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress, APC, describing loyalty as the foundation of his political journey.
The commissioner, who is widely regarded as a dedicated supporter of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, said his allegiance to the APC is rooted in conviction, not convenience. He noted that his public statements and actions over the years reflect a consistent stand for the party and its ideals.
Gegu’s profile in Kogi politics is defined by loyalty. He served closely with former Governor Yahaya Bello, aligning with policies that gave the administration its distinct identity. He has since extended the same loyalty to Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo, stressing that he does not believe in speaking from both sides of the mouth.
“You don’t bite the fingers that fed you,” Gegu said, explaining why he remains committed to leaders who gave him the platform to serve, Particularly that there leadership has been rewarding.
His influence extends beyond Lokoja. From Kogi LGA to Yagba West, Ankpa, and Ojima, Gegu has positioned himself as an interventionist, initiating projects in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and youth empowerment. Residents in these areas point to roads, skills acquisition programs, and support for farmers and vulnerable groups as evidence of his impact.
The commissioner has also been instrumental in strengthening the APC in Kogi State, facilitating the defection of thousands of supporters into the party. He expressed confidence that both President Tinubu and Governor Ododo would secure victory in 2027, stating that Kogi is firmly secured for the APC.
Colleagues describe Gegu as humble, selfless, compassionate, and innovative, with a strong focus on fairness and equity. His humanitarian outlook is captured in his often-repeated words: “The essence of living is to help each other. If you cannot help, don’t hurt each other.”
Gegu has received awards for outstanding performance and humanitarian contributions, further cementing his reputation as a public servant who prioritizes people over politics.
He also raised concerns about attempts by mischief makers to misrepresent his position and sow discord within the APC family in Kogi State. According to him, ignoring the influence of former Governor Yahaya Bello in the state’s political equation would be a costly mistake, given Bello’s enduring impact on the party’s structure and grassroots base.
“Engr. Bashiru Gegu is a full-blooded APC man,” a close associate said. “He has drawn the lines clearly. His loyalty is to Tinubu, to Ododo, former Gov Yahaya Bello and to the party. For him, Kogi is already taken for the APC come 2027.”
