Governor Otu, wife, dole out N20m to senior citizens in Cross River

 

The Governor of Cross River State, Apostle Senator Prince Bassey Otu, and his wife, Bishop Dr (Mrs) Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, have celebrated with senior citizens in a Christmas get-together giving them twenty million naira as their Christmas package.

Accirding to a Facebook post by the Office of the wife of Cross River Governor, the event, which was held at the African club, Calabar, gathered over five hundred (500) senior citizens and retirees from across the three Senatorial Districts of the State.

Commending the senior citizens and retirees for the years invested in building the state, Senator Otu upheld that they are responsible for the feats attained so far.

“I salute your dexterity and love. If not for you senior citizens, we will not be here today. I salute the labour of our heroes, if not for the foundation some of you have laid, i don’t think Cross River state would be where it is today.”

Emphasising the inclusivity of his government, Senator Otu informed them that they were not forgotten.

He said: “I have a message for you; you are not forgotten. In whatever work we carry out as a government, all the senior citizens will be carried along.”

On his commitment to paying gratuities, the Governor affirmed the gesture will be continuous.

“We have tried to pay the gratuities that for some years were not touched, we have also tried to employ, because some of the challenges of the society that brings criminality can be solved by not only kinetic energy but by employment.

“Let me also tell you that the season of sweetness continues,” the governor assured.

Also, speaking at the event, the First Lady and host of the event thanked the Governor for his magnanimity.

“I want to thank my husband for the immense support he gives me when there is a good course to undertake. He is present today to prove that he loves you and has you at heart.

Ecouraging the senior citizens to keep hope alive, she pleaded with them to prioritise their health.

“It is not over until it is over. Provided you’re still breathing, there is hope. Please, do not live a sedentary lifestyle. Move around, do little exercises, take walks, drink alot of water, and eat healthy. When there are events like this, come around, unwind, and relax. Do not subject yourself to so much thinking, because it will not take away the problem.”

Highpoints of tge ocassion include presentation of the cash gifts by Bishop Otu, Dance with the First Lady, Christmas carols by several groups, comedy, cultural performances and lots more.

In attendance were, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Emmanuel Ironbar, female Commissioners, wife of the former military Governor, Mrs Pam ogar, wife of the former deputy Governor, Mrs Omotunde Ivara Esu and a host of others.
