Gov. Bello’s Decision to Proscribe ASUU in 2017, A Visionary, Patriotic Decision – Hon. Abubakar Adagu Suberu

The decision by Gov. Yahaya Bello to proscribe activities of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, has been described as one of the best thing to have ever happened to the University.

Hon. Abubakar Adagu Suberu, one time Council Chairman of Okehi LGA, a former Special Adviser and an APC Chieftain in Kogi State made the assertion in a chat with Newsmen, expressed satisfaction that that singular decision by the Governor has saved the Institution from uninterrupted academic calendar.

Recall that the Kogi State Government on 19th July 2017, had proscribed the activities of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba. Hon. Abubakar pointed out that the decision has ranked the State University high amongst Universities in Nigeria.

Hon. Abubakar explained that the need to commend and appreciate Gov. Yahaya Bello for taking that quality decision to proscribe ASUU in the Institution became necessary when juxtaposed with the fact that the almost one year strike currently embarked upon by ASUU has crippled University Education in Nigeria.

While noting that Gov. Yahaya Bello’s patriotic decision has helped the students of PAAU to graduate within a time frame, Hon. Abubakar pointed out that right now, other Universities in the country have completely lost a whole academic calendar year due to the prolonged Nationwide ASUU strike that was unwarranted and avoidable.

Hon. Abubakar described Gov. Yahaya Bello as a visionary leader who looks into the future and works for what is good for his people, explained that the singular decision to proscribe ASUU in PAAU in 2017, has now made the Institution an envy amongst Universities in Nigeria.

Hon Abubakar equally commended the Governor’s efforts at repositioning the PAAU, said with Gov. Bello’s effort, the institution has witnessed an unprecedented improvement in academic and infrastructure developement.

Hon. Abubakar finally concluded by commending the efforts and speed with which the Governor has displayed in the Establishment of the Confluence University of Science and Technology Osara, described the Governor’s love for education as unprecedented in the state’s history.
