The journey from a child’s first dream to a young adult’s sense of purpose rarely happens in a single moment. It unfolds gradually through years of learning, discovery, perseverance, and growth. At Start-Rite Schools, that journey took centre stage during a week of colourful graduation ceremonies that celebrated every step of a learner’s development, culminating in the graduation of forty Secondary School students prepared to write the next chapter of their lives.
The celebrations began on Tuesday, 14 July, as the Early Years pupils delighted parents and guests with a colourful graduation ceremony themed “Building Blocks of Dreams.” Through songs, presentations, and exciting performances, the Reception Class of the Start-Rite community demonstrated that every ambition begins with a firm foundation. Their graduation served as a reminder that the habits, values, and curiosity developed in the earliest years often become the building blocks upon which future success is constructed.
Two days later, on Thursday, 16 July, the Primary School took centre stage under the theme “Soaring Beyond Limits: #TheUnstoppables.” The ceremony celebrated pupils who have learnt to look beyond perceived boundaries, embrace challenges with confidence, and believe in possibilities beyond the classroom. It reflected Start-Rite’s commitment to developing resilient learners who approach every opportunity with courage, determination, and the confidence to exceed expectations.
The week reached its climax on Saturday, 18 July, as the Secondary School graduated the Class of 2026 under the theme “Defined by Purpose: Driven by Impact.” The ceremony marked not simply the completion of secondary education but the beginning of a new chapter for students preparing to pursue higher education and take their place as responsible citizens and future leaders.
Setting the tone for the ceremony, the Principal of Start-Rite Schools, Mr. Femi Akinlade, reminded the graduating class that no success is achieved in isolation. He encouraged the students to pause and acknowledge the sacrifices of their parents, guardians, and teachers whose support, guidance, and belief in them had shaped their journey and made the day’s celebration possible.
Addressing the graduating class, the Chairman of the Advisory Board, Distinguished Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, OFR, CON, LL.D., SAN, who also serves as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), challenged the graduates to rethink what success truly means.
He reminded them that while certificates may open doors, they do not define a person’s worth. Nations, institutions, and communities, he said, are built by men and women whose judgement can be trusted, whose character remains firm under pressure, and whose influence is exercised in service to others. He urged the graduates to pursue lives defined not by titles or personal achievement alone but by the positive difference they make wherever they find themselves. Reaffirming Start-Rite’s aspiration of “Becoming The School,” he called on every graduate to become a living reflection of the values the institution seeks to instil.
Delivering the keynote address, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, built on the graduation theme by reminding students that purpose and impact cannot be separated from character and discipline.
He observed that freedom without purpose can become dangerous, talent without discipline may be wasted, character gives direction to intelligence, and education achieves its highest value only when it benefits others. Encouraging the graduates to think beyond university admission and career choices, he urged them to ask not only what course they would study but what kind of people they were becoming. Describing purpose as the operating system of life and impact as its application, Professor Ogunwole challenged the Class of 2026 to ensure that their values, choices, discipline, and commitment to solving real problems would define their legacy.
Throughout Graduation Week, the celebrations reflected the philosophy that has shaped Start-Rite Schools since its establishment: education is not merely preparation for examinations but preparation for life. From the first dreams nurtured in the Early Years, through the confidence built in Primary School, to the purpose embraced by the graduating class, the ceremonies presented one continuous story of growth.
As the Class of 2026 received their certificates and stepped into the next chapter of their lives, they did so with a clear challenge: to live lives defined by purpose, driven by impact, and distinguished by the positive difference they make wherever they go.
