Yahaya Bello has charged media practitioners to engage in citizens and developmental journalism, pointing out that there reportage should be about Nigeria for Nigerians. Governor Yahaya Bello made the call in a message to the annual lecture and award by the ” The Nigerian Post Newspaper” in Lokoja. Represented by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, Governor Bello said the time is ripe for journalists to report Nigeria for Nigerians by dwelling on the positive and constructively provoke the change needed for development. According to him, the present administration is responsive and responsible to the needs of it’s citizens stressing government resolve to continue to partner with the media in Kogi State. The Governor promised to sustain government fight against crimes and criminality by infusing technology in onslaught in the State. Professor Ocheni said Government at all levels must seek better ways of combating insecurity to sustain the collective efforts of one nationhood. He commended Governor Bello’s giant strides in repositioning the educational sector, youths and women inclusiveness in governance as well as giving recognition to the physically challenged in the State. Also in a paper presentation, Mr. Tope Joel of the Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja said the nation needs re-direction to ensure that the; “The House Does Not Fall” by voting leaders that will help in overcoming the security challenges as well as the need for family values to be inculcated in the children. In his remark, the Vice Chancellor, Federal University Lokoja, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi cautioned the political actors not to use, religion, ethnicity to heat the polity thereby attempting to pulldown the “House” of Nigeria as a nation. Also in their separate goodwill messages, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pharmacist Abdulkareem Asuku, Rector, Kogi State Polytechnic, Doctor Usman Ogbo, and Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Wemi Jones amongst others extolled Governor Bello’s style of redefining governance through projects execution across the State and inclusion of youths and women. In a remark, the Editor-in-Chief of The Nigerian Post Newspaper, Mike Abu said the topic; “Governance Leadership Re-Defined This House Must Not Fall” is apt in view of the happenings in the nation which call for collective efforts of all.
