CRPP Condoles NUJ Over Death of ThisDay Correspondent
———-urges government to provide allowances for journalists

Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP), in Edo State has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Mr. Austin Adibe Emenyonu, the state correspondent of ThisDay Newspaper, who passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025.
In a condolence message signed by its Chairman, Dr. Samson Isibor, and Secretary, Hon. C. Nkama, the coalition described the late journalist as a “versatile and fearless reporter” who demonstrated humility, coordination, and professionalism throughout his career.
“The CRPP enjoyed an unparalleled relationship with Mr. Adibe. He was among the fearless pen merchants who made us strong in Edo State politics and Nigeria in general,” the statement said.
The coalition lamented that Emenyonu’s death adds to the growing number of losses in the Edo State media community, describing it as “one too many in recent years.” It called on God to grant the NUJ and Emenyonu’s family the fortitude to bear the loss.
In the statement, the CRPP appealed to Governor Monday Okpebholo to enroll all practicing journalists in Edo State into the state’s health insurance scheme, noting that many work under strenuous conditions made worse by the high cost of living.
According to the group, “When sickness comes, it becomes a herculean task for journalists to afford drugs or food due to the current economic downturn. The governor should take steps to reduce the high cost of living in the state.”
The coalition also urged the government to provide allowances for journalists registered with the NUJ to supplement their meager earnings.
“Some years ago, things were still manageable, but now prices have risen astronomically, and purchasing power has disappeared. Maybe if support systems were in place, the late Adibe might not have died so suddenly,” the statement added.
The CRPP thanked God for Emenyonu’s life and pledged to stand with the NUJ during his burial, describing his passing as a great loss to the media and the state.
