Court to Hear Contempt Case Against Former Nasarawa PDP Chairman on December 2 Amid Party Crisis

The People’s Democratic Party is experiencing an intensifying struggle for control following Wednesday’s ruling by Justice Abdullahi Hassan Shams Shammah in Nasarawa State.

Francis Orogu, former State PDP Chairman, and the State Working Committee have been restrained by a High Court order in Doma local government from holding party Congress.

Counsel for the plaintiffs, Ishaka Mudi Dikko SAN, informed the Court that Francis Orogu, former Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, breached the standing Order by overseeing ward and local government Congresses, and requested the Court to hold him in contempt.

Dikko SAN sought a court declaration nullifying the congresses, citing their execution in defiance of a court order and the defendants’ counsel’s failure to submit a counter affidavit.

Counsel for the respondents, M.A. Jacob, Ulegede, and Isyaka Kadiri, represented by J.J. Usman SAN, informed the court that their counter affidavit had been filed in advance.

Counsel for the plaintiffs, Ishaka Mudi Dikko SAN, argued that the defendants’ legal interpretation was flawed and requested the court to reject their contention.

After reviewing the parties’ submissions, Honorable Justice Abdullahi Hassan Shams Shammah has set December 2nd, 2024, for the judgment on the outstanding applications.
