By joshua Senator Karimi Flags Off Free Bus Service in Lokoja to Support Tinubu Administration, Cushion Subsidy Effects
In a move to bring relief to citizens following the removal of fuel subsidy and to support the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Sunday Steve Karimi, has flagged off free urban transport services in Lokoja.
The flag-off, which is the first in a series of interventions, took place on Wednesday in the state capital under the Karimi Cares Initiative and was met with jubilation by residents.
The free shuttle service is designed to cushion the effect of rising transportation costs on students, civil servants, traders and other commuters who depend on public transport for their daily activities. The buses will operate along designated routes within the Lokoja metropolis, enabling residents to move between key locations without paying fares.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Lokoja Branch of Win-Win for Tinubu and Karimi, Hon. Maikudi Bature, described the scheme as a practical step to bring relief closer to the people and demonstrate solidarity with President Tinubu’s reform agenda. He thanked residents and supporters who attended the event and assured that more interventions would follow in the coming weeks.
Representing Senator Karimi, Hon. Folorunsho Daniel said the initiative was introduced to ease the transportation burden occasioned by the fuel subsidy removal and to provide direct support to people affected by the rising cost of living.
According to him, the free transport service will be sustained as part of Senator Karimi’s broader grassroots intervention programme aimed at complementing federal government efforts to stabilize the economy.
Other speakers commended the lawmaker for the gesture, noting that it would provide immediate relief and reduce pressure on household incomes.
In her remarks, representative of Igala women in Lokoja, Madam Abah Mary Salamatu, described the initiative as timely and impactful, adding that Igala women in the capital appreciate the gesture and will continue to support Senator Karimi and the All Progressives Congress.
Residents who witnessed the flag-off expressed excitement, saying the service would significantly cut their daily transportation expenses.
The launch marks the first phase of the transportation component of the Karimi Cares Initiative, with further relief programmes expected across Kogi West in support of the Tinubu administration.
