COMR. ALI ATABOR’S TRIUMPHANT EXIT FROM SERVICE, EXIT OF A MEDIA GENERAL.

ALI ATABOR’S TRIUMPHANT EXIT FROM SERVICE IS A SPECIAL VALEDICTORY NEWS COMMENTARY

WRITEN BY SAMUEL ATULUKU

As the immediate past Chairman of the Kogi State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ and National Trustee of the Union bows out of the State Civil Service, Samuel Atuluku of our News and Current Affairs Department examines his impact as an experienced journalist while in service.

The question of good leadership has often generated alot of argument in many quarters.

This of course, has to do with whether leaders are born or made.

From whichever angle it is viewed from, good leaders will always be identified by the followers and indeed the society.

Universally, it is believed that no individual, society or institution can be said to be perfect except God Almighty who is regarded as the All knowing God.

It is in this regard that it may be necessary to have a look  at the contributions of Comrade Chief Ali Atabor who has reached the pinnacle of his career in the journalism profession and stepped out of active service.

For the avoidance of doubt, Chief Ali Atabor joined the service in the then Benue State in March 1986 and rose through the ranks and is retiring as a Deputy Director.

As a staff of Radio Kogi Lokoja, he distinguished himself as an outstanding Reporter, a Chapel leader and in other positions of responsibility given to him.

As a two-time State Secretary and Chairman of NUJ, Chief Atabor also distinguished himself, a feat which earned him the present positions of National Trustee of the great Union and Governing Council member, Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba.

It is evident that the outgoing Head of Reportorial   demonstrated high degree of professionalism, commitment to duty, dexterity and showed passion in its entirety.

To many, Chief Ali Atabor was a mentor, to others, a  one man squad, yet to some, a critique, while some persons may see nothing good in him which in normal in life.

These  attributes, no doubt, were seen in most remarks on the News Departmental platform when he officially announced his exit from service on Saturday.

Politically, he was never a push over as he excelled while serving as Senior Special Assistant One in Igalamela Odolu Local Government Area during the Captain Wada-led administration in Kogi State.

Equally it is proved that his sterling leadership qualities attracted the followership in his constituency and beyond.

Thus, it is imperative to stress at this juncture that the thirty-five years of his service is seen as eventful viewing from the success story as attested to by members of the newsroom and beyond.

Therefore, to any right thinking person, Comrade Chief Ali came, saw and has conquered in all ramifications.

This implies that there is greater prospect ahead as he marches on in the journey of life.

Having laid down worthy legacies, it is expected that he will not be tethered, but sustain the good works which he has been known for.

For staff of the News and Current Affairs Dept, it is acknowledged that Chief Atabor has played his part, just like the popular saying that life is a stage where you will come, play your part and leave.

While the outgone HOR will continue to receive our prayers, it is advisable that those he is leaving behind should learn the lessons of stewardship, benefits of hardwork and above all God’s purpose for everyone.

Which is why everyone should strive to leave behind a worthy legacy and be remembered for something positive.

The vacuum left by Chief Ali Atabor no doubt will be difficult to fill, however, with renewed commitment, the department will continue to wax stronger.

It is hoped that the Head of Department will critically examine the exit of the HOR with a view to making necessary adjustments to move the department forward.

As we congratulate Comrade Chief Ali Atabor for a fulfilled career today, it is the fervent prayers of all to witness a period like this, some day some time.
