The Aiguobasinmwin Movement Worldwide has commemorated the first anniversary of what it described as Benin Kingdom’s united opposition to the proposed creation of Toru-Ebe and Anioma states.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, July 20, 2026, and signed by its Culture President, Mr. Iyamu Osaro, Assistant Secretary, Mr. Uhunoma Ewere Lucky, and Diaspora Coordinator, Mr. Monday Ohuimumwen (JP), the group recalled that Benin Kingdom unanimously rejected the proposals during a National Assembly Town Hall Meeting on constitutional amendments and state creation held a year ago.
According to the movement, the kingdom’s position reflected its commitment to preserving the cultural heritage, territorial integrity and historical identity of the Benin people.
The group claimed that the united stance of the Benin delegation drew widespread attention at the meeting, adding that it reinforced the message that the Benin Throne is sacred and Edo territory is not negotiable.
Reaffirming its position, the Aiguobasinmwin Movement Worldwide pledged to continue defending the unity, culture and territorial integrity of Edo people, both at home and in the diaspora.
The statement concluded with traditional expressions of solidarity and support for the Benin Kingdom, declaring that Edo would remain united and resolute in protecting its heritage.
