APWEN KOGI ANNOUNCES FOUR FINALISTS FOR 2026 INTER-SCHOOLS SCIENCE COMPETITION FOR GIRLS

The Kogi State Chapter of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) has announced the conclusion of the group stage of its 2026 Inter-Schools Science Competition for Girls, with three schools emerging as zonal champions.
The preliminary stage of the competition was held across the three senatorial districts of Kogi State from March 2026.
According to the State Chairman of APWEN, Engr. Mrs. Cecilia Attah, the following schools emerged as winners in their respective zones:
1. Kogi East Senatorial District: Our Lady of Schools, Anyigba
2. Kogi Central Senatorial District: Queen of Apostles Secondary School, Okene
3. Kogi West Senatorial District: St. Barnabas Secondary School, Kabba and Bishop Delisle College, Lokoja
The four zonal champions will now compete at the grand finale for the APWEN Challenge Cup, scheduled to hold in June or July 2026 during the APWEN Week. The specific date will be communicated to the winning schools in due course.
“The Inter-School Science Competition for Girls is one of APWEN’s flagship programmes designed to tackle barriers, build confidence and skills, and improve the long-term representation of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM),” Engr. Attah stated.
Reacting to the results, one of the principals of the winning schools commended APWEN for the initiative and praised the students for their hard work.
“This competition has sparked a new level of interest in science among our girls. We are proud of our students and grateful to APWEN for showing them that careers in engineering and science are within their reach. We look forward to the grand finale,” the principal said.
Engr. Attah congratulated all participating schools and urged the finalists to prepare adequately for the next stage.
The Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) is a division of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) committed to increasing the number of women in engineering and promoting STEM education among girls through mentorship, advocacy, and competitions.
