International Day of Boy Child – Celebrating a Boy Child.

International Day of Boy Child – Celebrating a Boy Child.

By Gloria Ojochogu Amodu.

Every Year on the 16th of MAY has been dedicated to celebrating the boy child. This was founded by Dr. Jerome Teelucksing in 2018, a university lecturer form Trinidad and Tobago.
He saw the need to also celebrate the boy child because they also face challenges in areas like education and mental health, while also nurturing their potential to become healthy, happy and positive community leaders.

This year’s theme is “ flourish and thrive, a call for parents, teachers and everyone”.

The girl child is trained to become a good wife, sister, friend and a mother , however the boy child also needs proper home training to tackle the increase in crime rates within the society cos as the saying goes charity begins at home. Therefore these boys also have the right to live, right to education as well, there is a need for them to have self-reliance , that it is also okay for them to be emotional sometimes and voice out, if necessary not to remain silent due to stigmatization.
Boy and girl children need equal training, treatment and rights.

This is a clarion call for the Government to also look into the boy child out of schools children because believe or not they are actually the foremost leaders of tomorrow.
