Comr. Onuh Edoka, Special Adviser on Labour Matters to Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo, is emerging as a top contender for the Ankpa Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 House of Representatives election, with supporters pointing to his labour record and grassroots reach.
Edoka, a former Kogi State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress and National Vice President of the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria, MHWUN, built his public profile on worker advocacy and industrial relations. Allies argue that background gives him the political depth to “reposition” the constituency.
As NLC chairman, Edoka led campaigns on salary payments, welfare packages, and worker protections during turbulent periods for Kogi’s civil service. In his current role as Special Adviser, he serves as a bridge between organised labour and government, a portfolio backers say has helped sustain industrial peace under the Ododo administration.
“His intervention has been critical to prompt salary payments and worker-friendly policies,” one labour official said, crediting Edoka’s engagement style and the governor’s responsiveness.
Beyond labour circles, Edoka is credited with youth empowerment schemes, education sponsorships for tertiary students, and community development projects across Ankpa. Supporters describe him as accessible, noting regular consultations with grassroots leaders, traditional institutions, and cultural groups.
His work has drawn recognition, including the “Most Outstanding Kogi Special Adviser 2024” and an award from the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, for contributions to public service and labour welfare.
Political groups including COEWIN and the Third Force have already declared support for Edoka, framing his potential candidacy as a push for “cohesion, stability, and purposeful representation.”
Backers argue that a House of Representatives platform would expand his capacity to influence labour policy nationally while consolidating support for the Ododo administration at home.
Edoka’s campaign narrative centers on transparency, accountability, and what aides call “servant leadership.” His record, they say, shows a preference for dialogue over confrontation and results over rhetoric.
For many constituents, the message is simple: “The reward for hard work is more work.” Supporters believe the National Assembly would give Edoka broader latitude to protect workers’ interests and attract federal attention to Ankpa’s development needs.
