The National Population Commission (NPC) Edo state office on Tuesday appealed to Nigerians, particularly Edo state residents to register online as participants for the census saying the NPC will be embracing technology to drive the 2023 population census.

National Population Commission (NPC) Federal Commissioner in Edo state, Tony Aiyejina made the appeal in Benin city, Edo state following the inauguration of the online E-recruitment process for the 2023 population and housing census by the chairman of the NPC, Nasir Isa Kwarra.

Aiyejina said the e-recruitment is completely free of charge and to be carried out by Nigerians residing in the country.

The Commissioner noted that the ‘Digital approach’ for the exercise is to ensure that the recruitment process is fair and transparent.

“The Commission took an unprecedented decision to conduct and deliver a digital census to the country. As a Corollary of that decision, All census processes are now based on digital platforms, technology and devices.

“In order to carry out the gigantic task of conducting accurate and reliable census, there is the need for the recruitment of manpower/personnel that will carry out the recruitment process. The need to be fair and transparent in the recruitment has led the Commission to introduce the online E-recruitment portal and train the officers that will superintend over this important census recruitment process.” Aiyejina said.

According to him, “ it is a Nigerian affair we plan well for the future. So we cannot afford to fail,”

He added that the people should embrace the exercise regardless of, “Whether you are APC, PDP, Labour Party ,or PRP. You need to be counted. There is no political colouration. The government needs the data for national planning.”Aiyejina said.
