Kidnappers have shot dead one person and abducted eight family members at Igbogo community in Kotonkarfe LGA of Kogi State.
A resident of Igbogo, Labaran Musa, said the incident happened on Sunday around 11:23pm when the kidnappers invaded the community.
He said the kidnappers went to one Tanimu Kaka’s house and abducted him along with his wife and three children.
He said the kidnappers also abducted three of the man’s cousins that were staying with him in his house at the community.
“The other man, who was killed, attempted to escape when the kidnappers were shooting sporadically to scare people from coming after them,” he said.
It was learnt that Tanimu Kaka, who is a staff of the Local Education Authority (LEA) in Gwagwalada Area Council, travelled to the village for the weekend when the kidnappers invaded his house and abducted him with his family members.
The Onyiwo of Igbogo, Abdulrahman Gimba Salihu, confirmed the abduction of eight family members and the killing of one person in the community.
“We were terrified by sporadic gunshots last night when kidnappers invaded my village and killed a young man while abducting eight family members,” he said.
The spokesman of the Kogi State Police Command, DSP Williams Ovye Ayah, did not pick up calls nor reply to text message sent to his phone on the incident at the time of filing this report yesterday night.
