Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, represented by his Deputy, Chief (Dr.) Edward Onoja, on Tuesday, presided over the swearing-in of 3 Judges of the State High Court, with a charge to them to ensure speedy dispensation of justice at all times.
The Judicial officers namely; Hon. Justices Abubakar Sule Ibrahim, Abdullah Sulyman, and Aminu Ali Eri were sworn in at the State Government House, Lokoja, pursuant to recommendations by the National Judicial Council (NJC).
Present at the ceremony were the Secretary to the State Government, Speaker, KSHA, Kogi State Chief Judge, President, State Customary Court of Appeal, Deputy Chief of Staff, Grand Khadi, Sharia Court of Appeal, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, former Judges, Chairman, NBA, legal luminaries, State Security Adviser, Commissioners, Head of Service, and other government officials.
Others were Justice Umaru Eri, OFR, pioneer Chief Judge of Kogi State between 1991 to 2008, elder statesmen, political, religious, and traditional leaders, with families of the judges, friends, and other esteemed guests in attendance.
In a charge on behalf Gov Bello, the new Judges were encouraged to leverage their performances by taking the State Judiciary to greater heights through proper and efficient administration of justice.
He lauded the harmonious collaboration shared amongst the 3 Arms of Government, which according to him, has kept the State on the growth map, encouraging them to uplift the standards achieved with performance for the greater good.
He insisted that the trio possess the education, experience, expertise, and character to effectively discharge their duties recalling that the Judiciary remains the last hope of the common man and pivotal to the actualization of an egalitarian society.
Chief Onoja mentioned the solid foundation laid by the pioneer Chief Judge of the State, his Lordshpip, Justice Umaru Eri, OFR, who’s sterling performance set the stage for the thriving Judiciary in the state. He capped it up by citing the Book it Psalm 11:3 of the Holy Bible which emphasizes the role of strong foundation for any endeavor in life to thrive.
In a vote of thanks, the new judges paid tributes to Governor Bello for his administration’s commitment in the provision of critical infrastructure for the state judiciary to efficiently discharge its responsibilities with an assurance of not betraying the confidence reposed in them.
