Zacharias Clinches PDP Ticket for Idah Federal Constituency After Rescheduled Primary

 

Two-term lawmaker, Hon. David Idris Zacharias, has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate for Idah Federal Constituency following a rescheduled primary election held today in Idah.

The fresh primary became necessary after the voluntary withdrawal of the earlier candidate, Hon. Paul Ukwenya, in line with INEC guidelines.

Idah Federal Constituency comprises Idah, Ibaji, Ofu and Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Areas. The Primary held at the various LGAs, with coalition done at Idah, the Federal Constituency headquarters. At the end of the exercise, Zacharias polled 388 votes to defeat other aspirants.

Announcing the results at the Kogi State PDP Secretariat in Lokoja, the Returning Officer for the Primary, Emeje Aruwa, declared Hon. Zacharias as the duly elected candidate of the party.

In his acceptance speech, Zacharias said he would “jealously guard the people’s mandate” and pledged to sustain the developmental progress recorded in the constituency during his previous representations.

He expressed confidence that the PDP would record a “clean sweep” in the 2027 general election, describing the party as “people-centred and committed to the welfare of Kogites.”

Also speaking, the Kogi State PDP Chairman, Hon. Mohammed Sanni Gambo, said the primary was conducted in strict accordance with the party’s Constitution. He noted that the voluntary withdrawal of Hon. Ukwenya necessitated the substitution and fresh conduct of the election.

The exercise was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, alongside other relevant security agencies made up of the Police, NSCDC, DSS.

With this victory, Hon. Zacharias will fly the PDP flag for Idah Federal Constituency in the 2027 elections.
