When I first heard that Yemisi was telling the electorate to hold her accountable, I was appalled because it would be the first time in the history of Yagba West that a candidate would be so bold as to tell people they should be held accountable.
So, last week, after hearing it from her (Yemisi), I began to have second thoughts, speculating that perhaps I did not understand what the phrase “hold me accountable” meant. I then went to Google to look up the meaning to make sure I understood it completely.
What does it mean to be held accountable?
Accountability means being answerable for your actions and decisions. If you were made responsible for something or you yourself promised to achieve certain outcomes, you can be held accountable for them.
Why is accountability important?
Accountability in the workplace is important because individuals who feel responsible for their actions may be more likely to perform their tasks well and efficiently.
That said, political accountability is when a politician makes choices on behalf of the people and the people have the ability to reward or sanction the politician.
If we don’t hold our politicians accountable, nothing will be done to better our communities. This goes beyond Yemisi.
When we hold all politicians accountable, we can have a much healthier democracy.
As we may already know, Yemisi is vying to represent Yagba West local government at the state house of assembly in the next general election. If she can be bold enough to tell us to hold her accountable, then it means she deserves our vote and our support.
Yagba West needs a representative that can be held accountable, and Yemisi has promised us accountability.
Yemisi has promised to embark on meaningful projects and also to attract more developments to the people without bias if elected.
She has laid out her plans for Yagba West if elected, and I believe she will try her best to achieve them.
I am calling on the sons and daughters of Yagba West local government to vote for Yemisi Oshaloto because the time to make things right is now.
