Workers Day: Organized Labour in Kogi Laments Collapse in Education Sector, Percentage Payment to Local Government workers

Kogi State organised labour said the state educational system has collapsed and local government workers have been dehumanised for unending percentage salary payment regime at the councils.

The Chairman of Trade Union Congress, (TUC), Comrade Ranti Ojo who addressed workers onbehalf of the Organised labour, dropped this hints in Lokoja on Sunday in his speech to mark the 2022 workers’ day celebration .

The labour leaders appealed to Governor Yahaya Bello to as a matter of urgency address the plight of local government workers, including teachers for many of them are dying and those that are alive have been turned to beggars in the society.

The Organized Labour who said the theme for this year’s celebration is: “Labour, Politics, and quest for good governance and development in Nigeria”, stated further that life has become unbearable for Kogi Workers because of the inflation trend in the Country.

“The Organised labour have critically observed that our Educational System have collapsed because of lack of teachers and educational facilities.

“More pronounced is that of our secondary schools where majority of the schools are empty, because in the last eight years, about 50 percent of the teachers have left service , either by screening exercise, death or retirement”, said labour.

The organised labour therefore said “percentage payment of salary at the primary school sector and local government area has not only crippled education at that level and bastardised council administration but also dehumanised workers at the sector”.
