The emergence of Mr. Ahiaba Stephen as the new National President of the Cashew Farmers Union of Nigeria during the election held at the Cashew House, Ogidibeje Junction, Anyigba in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, Nigeria on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 signifies a new dawn for the union.
The coming on board of Mr. Ahiaba is an opportunity for him to bring his wealth of experience in the agro-allied sector of the economy into the workings of the union for the good of all actors. His leadership promises a robust engagement with all involved in the cashew chain and as it is in his leadership style, everyone will be carried along in decision making as that has always brought him close and closer to the people he works with and that of the union won’t be different.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Ahiaba promised to address four (4) cardinal issues that pose great challenge to the farmers:
1. The problem of farm gates encroachment and pricing.
2. Multiple taxation.
3. Cashew theft within the farm, warehouses and on transit.
4. Cashew seedling production and grafting technology which shall increase cashew production and control in Nigeria.
For the union, it’s a breath of fresh air with Mr. Ahiaba Stephen at helms of affairs.
Signed:
The Media Head,
Cashew Farmers Union of Nigeria
