UNIBEN Grants Amensty to overstayed Students

The management of the University of Benin , ( UNIBEN), said on Monday that it has granted Amensty to over five hundred (500) students who had overstayed in the University ‘ to enable them to graduate from the system.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Lilian Salami stated this in Benin City , while briefing journalists
ahead of the commemoration of the University’s 46th and 47th Convocation.
The convocation will also be used to celebrate the 51st Founders’ Day and Golden Jubilee Awards Ceremonies .

Professor Salami said ,cases of more than five hundred (500) students who had overstayed in the University were looked into by the
Senate and granted ‘amnesty’ to graduate from the system.

She said, ” We have also introduced a method whereby certificates of graduands are available for collection right from the day of the Convocation”.

“We have successfully introduced the blended teaching methods through e — learning and physical teaching process as a fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic. To achieve that, a Directorate of Quality Assurance was established to standardize academic activities and ensure quality service delivery across all academic programmes in the University.

According to her ” the challenging issue of processing of transcript
has been addressed by acquiring modern, state of the art equipment and the deployment of software to all departments and faculties for transcript processing.

“Application is now on-line and it is expected that in less than one week, the process can be concluded and transcript dispatched, except in cases where information required have not been adequately supplied by the student.

She added that, the University’s Senate has recently approved student copy-—transcript as part of the innovations.

Salami confirmed that , the 2018/2019 academic sessions there are eight thousand, nine hundred and ninety-six(8,996) successful graduands while for the 2019/2020 session , eight thousand, five hundred and twenty- one ( 8,521), graduands made it to the finishing line.

While, higher degrees graduands for 2018/2019 and 2019 / 2020 academic total 3,428.

Also, the the former Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Osayuki Oshodin will be invested as a Professor emeritus.
