As Governor Alhaji Usman Ododo marks his first year in office on January 27, 2025, it is essential to recognize the remarkable strides made in Kogi State under his leadership. Governor Ododo’s first year has been characterized by transformative changes that have positively impacted the lives of the people of Kogi. His leadership has continued to build upon the foundation laid by his predecessor, former Governor Yahaya Bello, while bringing a fresh perspective to governance in the state.

One of the most commendable achievements of Governor Ododo’s administration has been in the area of security. His focus on enhancing the safety of lives and properties has been evident in the strengthening of law enforcement agencies and the implementation of community policing initiatives. This has nipped in the bud almost inter-ethnic / community skirmishes that were prevalent in the state. These measures have led to a noticeable reduction in crime rates, making Kogi State safer for its residents.

In addition to security, the governor has prioritized infrastructural development across the state. Under his leadership, key road projects have been completed, improving transportation networks and easing congestion in urban areas. The ongoing efforts to address environmental concerns, such as erosion control projects, have also been a significant boost for many communities in the state, positively affecting over 300,000 residents.
Furthermore on infrastructural developments
The Ododo administration has considered it a top priority for Kogi State to have an international airport and to join the league of aviation hubs, The Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has approved the Kogi State Government’s proposal to construct an international airport in the Zariagi community.
Also this Government has just awarded the contract for the construction of the Mega Central Market.

Education has not been left behind in Governor Ododo’s transformative agenda. His administration has made substantial investments in renovating schools, recruiting qualified teachers, and improving student performance. With an 18% increase in enrollment and a 12% improvement in national exam results, the governor has shown his commitment to the future of Kogi’s youth, ensuring that they have access to quality education.
Also as palliatives for the removal of fuel subsidy and in continuation of the giant steps of his predecessor; Alhaji Yaya Bello, this administration decided to pay for the 2023/2024 examination fees of all students in government approved public secondary schools in the state sitting for the for the West African Examination Council (WAEC) , National Examination Council (NECO), and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) examinations, respectively.
At the state tertiary institutions academic programmes have been expanded, new faculties have been established. Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo flagged off disbursement of bursary allowance to Eight thousand, seven hundred and fifty 8,750 undergraduate students beneficiaries the sum of three hundred and sixteen million, seven hundred and seventy thousand naira (NGN 316,770,000) on the 24th January 2025 in Lokoja.
Our Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, also signed a bill transforming the Reference Hospital in Okene into the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) Teaching Hospital.
At the Kogi State University, Kabba In a significant step towards enhancing the educational infrastructure,
His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo on the 21st November, 2024 handed over four more projects sites to reputable contractors.
The projects include the female hostel complex,the male hostel,the Senate Tower, and the Faculty of Science building.

Governor Ododo has also focused on economic empowerment, particularly through skills development initiatives aimed at young people. Over 240 artisans have received training at the Nigeria-Korean Friendship Institute, equipping them with the skills needed to thrive in various sectors. This initiative has not only empowered the youth but has also contributed to an increase in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

Furthermore, the governor has made significant strides in boosting the agricultural sector, supporting over 10,000 farmers with essential inputs and facilitating a 25% increase in agricultural productivity. The establishment of agro-processing centers has created thousands of jobs, further strengthening Kogi’s economy and providing employment opportunities for the people. Accordingly, this government procured 100 trucks of fertilizer which was distributed to farmers at subsidized rates. The impact so far has been tremendous.
Furthermore, the Governor handed over 40 new tractors and the sum of 420 Million Naira to community interest groups across the state, to undertake climate -smart agricultural across the 21 LGA’s.

In recognition of these achievements, the PDP Youth in Kabba/Bunu Local Government would like to express our gratitude to former Governor Yahaya Bello for choosing Alhaji Usman Ododo as his successor. Under his leadership, Kogi State has witnessed significant progress, and we look forward to even greater achievements in the years to come.

We congratulate Governor Usman Ododo on his first anniversary in office and wish him continued success as he leads Kogi State toward a brighter future. Happy anniversary to Kogi 001!
