The Kogi State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. Muhammad Sanni Gambo, has described Friday’s court judgement affirming the leadership of the PDP as a victory for democracy and for millions of Nigerians yearning for credible opposition and good governance.
Recalled that A Federal High Court in Abuja, to dismissed a suit by Kabiru Tanimu, Jerry Gana, Aldolphus Wabara and their co-travellers asking INEC to recognize an “Illegal Interim National Working Committee.” The court ruled the case lacked merit.
The decision also affirms the Abdulrahman led National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP.
PDP members home and abroad have welcomed the judgement and are celebrating the victory.
In a statement issued in Lokoja, Hon. Gambo said the ruling has finally put to rest the internal crisis that held the party back, and reaffirmed that “there is no two PDP, but one PDP in the country.”
The Kogi PDP boss noted that the judgement is an affirmation of the will of the majority of Nigerians who are looking up to the PDP to provide a viable alternative to the ruling party.
“This judgement today is not just for the PDP leadership. It is for the ordinary Nigerian who is tired of hardship, insecurity and bad governance,” Hon. Gambo said.
“It is an affirmation of the people’s yearning for a better life. The PDP remains the party with the structure, the experience, and the will to rescue this country.”
He specifically congratulated key leaders who stood firm during the period of crisis.
“I congratulate the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, the Acting National Chairman of our great party, Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman and the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu for this judgement that has finally put an end to the issues holding the PDP down,” he said.
Hon. Gambo also extended appreciation to the entire leadership and stakeholders of the PDP in Kogi State for their patience, loyalty and commitment during what he called a “trying period.”
“I congratulate the State Working Committee, the Board of Trustees members from Kogi, our National Assembly caucus, led by Senator. Natasha Akpoti Udaughan, former Governor’s, former Minister’s, LGA Chairmen, Ward Executives, and all teeming members of the PDP in Kogi State,” he stated.
“This watershed judgement belongs to all of us. Your resilience has paid off.”
The Chairman said with the coast now clear, the PDP in Kogi will immediately commence full mobilization and reconciliation across the 21 Local Government Areas ahead of future elections, described the PDP in the State as the winning team.
He urged members who may have been discouraged by the crisis to return to the fold, stressing that the party needs every hand to rebuild and reposition for 2027.
“We must close ranks. The task ahead is to take back Kogi and to take back Nigeria. The people are waiting for us, and we cannot afford to fail them,” Gambo added.
Party stakeholders in Lokoja who reacted to the news described the judgement as timely and expressed optimism that it will restore discipline, unity and direction to the PDP at both national and state levels.
With today’s ruling, the PDP leadership under Alhaji Abdulrahman and Senator Anyanwu has been affirmed, clearing the path for the party to focus on reorganization and opposition politics nationwide.
The PDP has been embroiled in leadership tussles in the last year, with different factions laying claim to the party’s structure. Friday’s court decision is expected to unify the party and end parallel meetings and litigations that have distracted its operations.
