State Police Bill: Kogi Assembly Passage Commendable, Cso Urges Nass To Fast-track Legislative Process

A leading civil society organization in Kogi State has commended the Kogi State House of Assembly for passing the constitutional alterations on the State Police Bill.
The Executive Director of Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution (CHRCR), Lokoja, Comrade Idris Miliki Abdul, gave the commendation in a press release issued on Tuesday.
According to him, security is a collective responsibility and a secured environment guarantees a peaceful society.
Miliki noted that the debate on the creation of State Police has now been taken forward, with the constitutional requirement of passage by 24 State Houses of Assembly gaining momentum, a development he said deserves commendation by all well-meaning Nigerians.
He stressed that the creation of State Police will greatly assist in the fight against insecurity, particularly in Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE) at the state level, as various communities will be actively involved in securing their own communities.
“The creation of state police shall assist greatly in the fight on preventing and countering violent extremism at state level as various communities shall be involved in their community,” the statement read.
The CHRCR boss called on the National Assembly to conclude all legislative processes on the Bill without further delay.
He also urged the Kogi State Government to immediately establish a review and implementation committee to work out modalities for its successful implementation when it eventually becomes an Act.
