The events of yesterday’s homecoming rally, organized by Senator Natasha Akpoti, despite a clear warning and a statewide ban on political rallies by the Ododo-lead government, could have easily plunged the state into chaos. Yet, under the leadership of Governor Usman Ododo, and with the guiding influence of former Governor Yahaya Bello, the government maintained a firm but measured stance, ensuring that the situation did not spiral into an uncontrollable crisis.
Many had anticipated a violent confrontation. The state government had explicitly cautioned against unauthorized political gatherings to maintain law and order, and security forces were mandated to enforce the ban where necessary.
