Calling a spade by no other name, Dr. Gambo Yahaya has been, all his life at the Vanguard of positive change in Ankpa Local government. Evidences abound that the young visionary leader has never kept silent in the face of tyranny. He loves Ankpa Local government and the youth with passion which other people reserve for corruption, moral and values destruction. I stand to be challenge, no political leader and major stakeholders in Ankpa local government today that has not gained the acquaintance of this compassionate young leader in the course of his fighting for a better society.
After the 2003 general elections in Nigeria, Dr. Gambo Yahaya was at the vanguard of ensuring good governance in Ankpa local government and kogi state at large through a movement called, Ujache club of Nigeria. There was a testimony that Dr. Gambo Yahaya single handedly wrote all the bulletins that promote the club and good governance beyond the shore of Kogi State. You can ask the likes of Alh. Hassan Yakubu Enape, Hon. Hassan Omale, former House of Rep. Member and Ankpa youths and political leaders generally. Ujache Club of Nigeria was a Household name and its story as a watchdog to bad governance can not start and end without the name, Comrade Gambo Yahaya. This struggle earned him the title, ‘The Voice of the Masses VOM.” I could recalled when Alh. Yusuf Omale was the Chairman, Ankpa Local Government, a shabby bridge was constructed over the Imabolo river in Ankpa with a huge sum of millions. Within a very short period the bridge collapsed and the local government was set to lose a huge sum of millions and without a bridge to cross. But Comrade Gambo Yahaya, VOM with his Ujache group would not fold their arms and left Ankpa local government under such sorry situation. He released a bulletin titled, “EFCC MUST HEAR THIS: NOT A THREAT BUT A PROMISE.” A bulletin that was well circulated and a mighty campaign launched to the hear of the government at the Centre. To cut the long story short, hence the solid bridge we are using since then till today.
It was Ujache club of Nigeria that gave birth to Concerned Political Leaders’ Forum, Kogi East under the Chairmanship of Alh. Hassan Yakubu Enape, the body that galvanized support of other political leaders in Kogi State, the likes of late Senator AT Ahmed, Shola Akomode, Senator Alex Usman Kadir and a host of others to birth Action Congress of Democrats( ACD) in Kogi State. The party that later metamorphosed into The Action Congress (AC) under whose umbrella our visionary Comrade Gambo Yahaya aspired for Kogi State House of Assembly, Ankpa 1 constituency in 2007. All are now history but we can dig deeper into his dogged struggle to checkmate the excesses of bad governance. The same party that became Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) after the merger with The AD and gave birth to the present All Progress Congress(APC).
In Summary, Dr. Gambo Yahaya has been a party Man and has mentored uncountable youths in politics and good governance. He is a role model to many youths across party lines.
Throwing his hat into the ring of State House of Assembly, Ankpa 1 Constituency today is a blessing to our constituency and should be celebrated. It is the reinvigoration of Ujache Spirit and the rebirth of positive struggle to bringing Ankpa local government to the pedestal of positive change.
