It goes without saying that in any process of change in any system, environment or social order, there will exist some pockets of resistance from those who have been benefitting and growing fat from a rotten system that is long overdue for a change.
This scenario is what is playing out at the Kogi State’s finest Specialist Hospital that has been repositioned by an enigmatic and quintessential change agent and a man who has sacrificed his personal comfort and reputation to come home and serve his fatherland, Kogi State, Professor Isah Yahaya Adagiri.
We will recall that the man, Prof. Adagiri, had to make a hard choice to come home and serve the people four years ago with his new broom of change. He met an old rotten and disheartening environment that betrayed what a good system should have been.
Undaunted Professor Adagiri, the determined man knew he had a task ahead to reposition the hospital in tandem with the directive of the immediate past Governor, His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, who tried his best to leave the hospital better than it was in those old days of anything goes. Of course, we are all aware that the old system had nothing good and glorious to offer the society.
There is no gainsaying that the old order has produced emergency billionaires and those living old false lifestyles that their miserable salaries could not justify.
Funnily enough, that is what has become a bye – word of institutionalised corruption andmalfeasance. But those who were victim of the new order were not prepared to accept the new broom of change. Of course, when a goat is caught eating the owner’s yam, the goat will put up resistance because it was a free food. This is exactly what is playing out at the newly repositioned specialist hospital which has improved significantly from the old, glorified general hospital that could not offer effective and affordable services to the good people of the State.
Of course, you will recall that the immediate past Governor was determined to usher in a new order at the hospital that is worth its name. We have it on good authority that the former Governor released one billion naira to give the hospital a new facelift.
Sadly enough, those undesirable element and riffraff and white collar criminals masquerading as civil servants decided to resort to frivolous and wishy-washy petition that could not even stand in the face of facts to the ICPC in the attempt to cover their tracks and divert attention from the ongoing concerted effort by the Chief Medical Director to usher in a new order so that Kogi State health system can attain value.
In the typical fashion, they have resorted to embracing a petition thinking that they can cover their tracks and save their names, faces and career that are already on the line.
Fellow Kogites, that is the bottom line of the kernel of the press briefing addressed today by the Chief Medical Director of Kogi State Specialist Hospital, Professor Isah Yahaya Adagiri, in Lokoja to address adequately all the issues raised in the petition.
In keeping with his international reputation, the CMD, the man with edifying medical pedigree, and professional acumen, took time to deflate the balloon of those who think they can eat their cake and have it.
