By joshua Sen. Sunday Karimi Launches 2026 Bursary, To Support 3309 Public Tertiary Institution Students Across Kogi State
For yet another year, Senator Sunday Steve Karimi, representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, has reaffirmed his commitment to education and youth empowerment with the commencement of his annual bursary registration.
The Distinguished Senator Sunday Karimi Education Foundation has announced that registration for the 2026 Student Bursary Award across Kogi State will run from 20th August to 20th September 2026.
In the 2026 edition, a total of 3309 students are slated to benefit N100,000 each. According to the Foundation, the breakdown includes 610 students from Kogi Central, 1,000 students from Kogi East, and 1,390 students from Kogi West. This continues a pattern of expanding support since he assumed office. Records from the Foundation show that 3,000 students benefited in 2025, and 1,000 students benefited in 2024.
The bursary scheme, administered through the Senator Sunday Karimi Education Foundation, is designed to ease the financial burden on students and their parents, and to encourage academic excellence across the three senatorial districts.
Speaking on the initiative, the Foundation noted that the support aligns with the premium President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration places on education and human capital development as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Beyond the bursary, Senator Karimi’s tenure in the 10th National Assembly has been marked by several interventions that have been publicly documented and widely reported:
In addition to the annual bursary, Senator Karimi has facilitated scholarships, payment of WAEC/NECO fees, and donation of educational materials to schools across Kogi West. He has consistently advocated for increased funding for tertiary institutions and skills acquisition programs for youths.
He has attracted and facilitated several federal projects in Kogi West including road rehabilitation, solar-powered streetlights, and rural electrification projects in Kabba-Bunu, Ijumu, Yagba East, Yagba West, and Mopa-Muro LGAs. His office has also been involved in the provision of motorized boreholes and primary health care support in rural communities.
Senator Karimi has facilitated employment opportunities for constituents into federal agencies, and has sponsored skills acquisition and entrepreneurship training for youths and women. He has also supported farmers with agricultural inputs as part of efforts to boost food security.
In the Senate, he serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Services and has been vocal on issues of national importance, particularly on security, solid minerals development, and good governance. His legislative contributions have focused on bills and motions aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians.
Stakeholders across Kogi State have described the annual bursary as one of the most consistent direct-support programs to students in recent years, noting that it has helped many indigent students remain in school.
